nickname: Aka, Roa, New Zealand, Zealand, Zea. She prefers Zea or Roa.
age: One Hundred and Seventy-Two. She was born Feb 6, 1840 celebrates it May 21, 1840 instead.
grade: Junior. She is studying Kinesiology.
important people: ----- ---- ----- (Australia) is her younger brother. He is her main trading partner, they have a friendly sibling rivalry in many thing, and tend to share well, having in the past a combine Olympic team, combine military forces and an agreement to discuss all things of mutual interest. Her brother is more interested in the American fight against communism however, and Roa is more interested in simply peace keeping.
member group: Hetalian
why are they at the school: Scouting of course. Just like any other Hetalian but even the Hetalians are unaware of her yet, and she got here when they did.
ability: Radial Disruption. Roa has the ability to disrupt other abilities. She can stretch the span outward so it can be either a thin layer over her skin, preventing ability use on her, or spread outward in a radius around her, preventing ability use near her. Gifts wouldn’t work in that zone. There are exceptions of course, for example Ildri could still use fire but would become a phoenix. When it is skin tight, abilities like Din, Leela or Erin have wouldn’t affect her, but could still affect others near her or objects in a room.

one ~ She has a sheep named Sheep and a kiwi named Kiwi. Sheep goes almost everywhere with her. Kiwi not so much as he is more obvious.
two ~ She is obsessed with sheep. She has a sheep bed spread, stuffed sheep, sheep playing cards, a sheep cookie jar, a sheep juice pitcher...if it comes in sheep she has it.
three ~ Lord of the Rings. For those who know me, this obsession I am giving her is actually me fan girling. To be fair, the movies were filmed in New Zealand and are one of the most notable piece of New Zealand in western culture.
four ~ Zorbing is awesome and as such Roa zorbs. Zorbing is basically running around in a giant plastic bubble. There is water zorbing, hill zorbing or just zorbing in general. They come in harnessed form or loose from (like a hamster ball). Zorbing is a New Zealand thing and began in the 1990s and Roa is an avid zorb fan.
five ~ Roa loves good wine and also enjoys carving, weaving and has recently gotten a few tattoos due to the resurgence of Maori traditions. Her current tattoos are of a sheep and a Kiwi of course.
PEOPLE
one ~ Canada and New Zealand have a lot in common. They have the same type of monarchy and share a monarch through Britain. They have many treaties and agreements as well as strong relations. They both have a similar position as New Zealand is described as Australia’s Canada. Both have similar stances on political issues and prefer peace keeping when possible.
two ~ Britain and New Zealand are obviously closely tied. New Zealand was a part of the British empire, fighting alongside Britain in conflicts like the New Zealand Wars (also against them in this case...its complicated), WWI and WWII. Britain granted New Zealand the ability to govern itself and New Zealand is now independent while still recognizing the queen as its Monarch. Britain acts almost a father to New Zealand, having been responsible for the coming together of the people and formation of its first cohesive government.
three ~ America and New Zealand have had decent relations in recent years, having put the past behind them. In the past there was a disagreement and political fallout because of New Zealand’s ban on nuclear battle ships. This resulted in the ANZUS treaty (originally set up to protect the pacific and agree to aid each other) being stripped down to Australia and the two countries but not New Zealand and America for one another. The economic impact of trade is bigger for New Zealand due to its small size.
four ~ Russia and New Zealand have always had strained relations. This has not changed too much in recent years. New Zealand was loyal to the British Empire (seen as almost a paternal figure to her) and Russia threatened that. In the 1870s and 80s fortifications were made on the coasts of New Zealand just in case. And even as recently as 1980 the people of New Zealand were encouraged to avoid the Russia summer Olympics.
five ~ China and New Zealand have amazing relations and include a free trade agreement, the first ever offered from China, making it the biggest country to have such an agreement with New Zealand. These two share agreements relating to trade, exchange and education that have helped both of their nations. They have had disagreements in the past but their relationship is second only to that of Australia and New Zealand.
HISTORY
one ~ 1840 – 1893: Roa was born in Wellington, New Zealand and has lived there her whole life as it is the capital. She became a colony of Britain in 1840 when she came to be and the first nation she ever met was almost immediate...Arthur becoming a paternal figure for her. A representative government was formed in 1852 and this soon developed and by 1856 New Zealand was self governed except in native policy. Roa was and still is loyal to England. England was also there are her enemy and her friend in the New Zealand Wars occurring from 1845 – 1972 which resulted in the child looking only 3 or 4 years old getting seizures which hit consistently over the course of the conflict. (It is worth noting that her gender was not apparent and wasn’t until early 2009 as she remained androgynous until a spontaneous change brought on by events)
two ~ 1893 – 1945: In 1893 New Zealand became the first country to grant all women the right to vote. New Zealand was there for the Second Boer War, WWI (in which she fought alongside Britain), The Great Depression and of course WWII (once again fighting alongside Britain but also with better cooperation with the United States). During these years, New Zealand was granted the right to sign their own treaties by Britain in 1926.
three ~ 1945 – 1970: In 1947 New Zealand became a common wealth state, taking Britain’s monarch as her monarch. She experienced a period in the 1950s and 60s where she had the highest standard of living in the world, occurring because of the heavy agricultural exports to the United States and Britain. During these years New Zealand was involved in the Malayan Emergency and the Korean War. In 1951 the ANZUS treaty was formed to protect the pacific. New Zealand, the United States and Australia agreed to work together and protect one another.
four ~ 1970 – 1990: After their prosperity in the 1950s and 60s, New Zealand saw a deep recession in 1973. Their export market took a hit when the United Kingdom joined the European community. There was also a 1973 Oil crisis and a 1979 Energy crisis that contributed toward a New Zealand Depression. Roa spent these years very sick. It took readjusting and changing the form of her economy to one of free trade to disperse the depression in 1984. New Zealand also placed a ban, declaring themselves a nuclear free zone, resulting in bad feelings between them and the United States. The US dropped a portion of the ANZUS treaty, so that the US and New Zealand were no longer obligated to assist one another.
five ~ 1990 – Present: Things got a bit more light hearted from there. Though there was the Gulf War and the War in Afghanistan (which is still going on of course), New Zealand also celebrated the filming of Lord of the Rings, a Free Trade Agreement with China and an increase in feminine freedoms and accomplishments. Between March 2005 and August 2006, New Zealand became the only country in the world in which all its highest offices were occupied simultaneously by women (including the Head of State, Governor-General, Prime Minister, Speaker and Chief of Justice). They also suffered another small bout of depression but it has only recovered since. New Zealand’s appearance sprouted and resulted in rapid hair growth and a sudden bloom of a feminine figure to reflect her countries success and changes. These changes had begun with the shift in their economy and were completed quite recently. She left for Canada to scope out this new school everyone was talking about with an appearance no one would recognize (except China and Australia of course).[/blockquote][/SIZE]
