Warren and Ildri were on there way to Washington D.C., well actually they had just landed. His nerves were kicked in to gear and compared to Ildri he looked like a mess. His hair was disheveled from a restless night of sleep. Needless to say he was crazy worried about this meeting. Yes, it was his idea to have Ildri and his parents meet but it didn’t stop him from playing out every single evil scenario in his head. As he put their suitcases in the cab, he double-checked that their bags were actually theirs. Glancing at Ildri she seemed calm as a cucumber, then again this was his parents so everything she said would come back to him in its own time. Maybe he should just calm himself down, so he took a deep breath letting it out slowly. Feeling a bit better he closed the trunk and shuffled inside.
Getting to his parents house he looked up at it from in the car. Glancing over at Ildri he smiled more for himself than her at the moment. Looking at the door handle it felt like touching it would burn him. Slowly he took the handle in his hand and opened the door. The cabbie had all ready gotten out to unload their bags on to the curb. Shutting the door he took out his wallet and made his way to the cab driver handing over a fair share of money. Once seeing the driver off he picked up the bags, and looked at the white house. It was a quaint neighborhood not to much going on. Although he did noticed a child riding his bike up and down the street. Turning to Ildri he takes another deep breath, anyone could tell from a mile away he was a hot mess.
“Are you ready to do this?”
Putting the bags back down he smoothed his hair back down. He felt that he was so disorganized at the moment; usually he was more calm than this coming to see his parents. Although he wasn’t presenting his phoenix girlfriend to them either. That was another thing they knew he was different and she was obviously to some point but not that if she got mad enough she could erupt in to fire. Rubbing his eyes he couldn’t be so negative everything was going to go fine. There would be some awkward moments no doubt but besides that everything else would go fine. He repeated this in his head like it was going out of style. Finally he nodded to Ildri to signal he was ready and too himself up the steps and knocked on the door almost in slow motion. Ildri had actually never been on a plane before. After all, what need did she have to use one when she could fly? So it was a bit weird just sitting the entire trip rather than doing the flying on her own. She was dealing with it though just fine. The girl was used to changes by now, and this was just another one. They cleared through and then got into a cab with their bags. They were headed for his parents’ house and she had to say that she was honestly only a little nervous. It was the first time she was meeting someone’s parents because she was not used to actually dating someone to begin with. There was a point when you didn’t really get all that awkward anymore, but she was a little bit at this moment. It probably just wasn’t apparent because she basically already knew what she was going to say and all that. Well, she mostly knew, and hopefully they would count any small missteps as just her being nervous and not her getting lost with what to say. She was fairly good at just giving simple answers though so it shouldn’t be too much of an issue, or at least she hoped not.
They made it to his parents’ house and he seemed actually quite nervous. She wondered what exactly that meant for her if he was this nervous about it. Or maybe he was just afraid that she wouldn’t like his parents or something. His question made her giggle slightly. ”Of course.” she said before leaning over and giving him a kiss on the cheek. ”Calm down, it will be fine.” she said simply as a statement of reassurance seeing as he looked quite disheveled at the moment. She was sure that everything would be fine and that it would just be no big deal. He was clearly not under the same impression for some strange reason. Finally it looked like he was ready to go and they walked up the stairs and he knocked on the door. ”You have to knock? Why not just walk in? You technically live here.” she asked him curiously while he was knocking on the door. Maybe that hadn’t occurred to him, or maybe he didn’t have a key for some reason. It didn’t particularly matter though she supposed being that he had already knocked and now would just have to wait for them to open the door.

Feeling Ildri kiss his cheek he let her warm lips wash over him. Then of course with her reassurance he felt a bit bolder than he had been feeling. It was terrible when you didn’t know what to expect, of course he wanted his parents to like her as much as he did. And he wanted Ildri to love his parents as much as he did. He didn’t expect them to be one big happy family the moment they met. But it was those awkward questions or moments he was dreading. Never really good in social situations like this or how to control them. That was one thing Ildri did have on her side, she’d been telling this story for decades. Maybe not to her boyfriends parents but to other people although he hoped she cared a bit more about his parents than she did other people. He figured to let the chips fall where they may because he had no control over anything. Why he was seeing everything going horrible wrong, he had no idea. This was technically the first time he was bring a girlfriend home who had no intentions of using him and leaving him in the dust. Once he knocked they stood there waiting for his parents to come open the door. But he was interrupted from his thoughts when Ildri asked why he was knocking.
“Oh well last time I was coming in to town I surprised my parents by a day. Thinking it would be nice to be like hey I’m a day early. But it was not a nice surprise, my mom was running around in a shirt only and my dad was shirtless… lets just say I never want to just walk in ever again.”
He shuttered thinking about it never wanting to replay that scenario over ever again. So they stood at the front door waiting he heard shuffling and what sounded like his mothers excited voice of ‘there here!’ and his father-laughing saying that the door wasn’t sound proof. As his red headed mother opened the door her brown eyes scanned over the two of them. A smile was spread across her mouth and she opened her arms throwing them around her son. Warren always loved the greeting from his mother they were warm and inviting. His father then taking her place a giving him a shorter hug. When they let go he then introduced Ildri. “Mom, dad this is my girlfriend Ildri.” He gestured toward to red head beside him. He watched as his mother analyzed her for a moment and his father giving him a wink saying she was a looker. His mother then took Ildri in for one of her famous hugs saying how nice it was to finally meet her and taking her hand leading her inside the house.
Warren followed grabbing on of the bags and his gather taking the other. They placed them in the front entrance before following the ladies in to the living room. His mother had all ready-sat Ildri down next to her not leaving a moment to spare before asking her questions. “So Ildri tell me a bit about yourself.” Warren smiled and sat down as his mother left the question pretty open. This was going better than he expected all ready. His father excused him self going to grab some coffee before offering if anyone else wanted anything then went off in to the kitchen to grab some drinks. Warren was happy at least his father hadn’t asked him to go in to the kitchen with him leaving Ildri alone with his mother the whole time he would have worried. Even though so far was going just as expected, hopefully there wouldn’t be a curve ball thrown in. [/blockquote] Word Count: 629 Tags: Ildri/Cal Notes: None FatherMother

Warren shouldn’t have too much to worry about honestly, but she figured he was worried none the less. Maybe she was the first girl he had brought home or something? Either way, he definitely needed to calm down or his parents might wonder what was wrong. There were sure to be a few bumps at first after all, but hopefully it was nothing they couldn’t avoid with a few quick answers. As long as they remembered what they were later there shouldn’t be any sort of issue. It was just a matter of not getting caught in a lie, and while she would be fine, she wasn’t completely sure Warren would be. She had been telling the story she had for a considerably long time and thus knew it fairly well at this point. They had gone over things beforehand, so hopefully there were no huge curveballs sent her way. She may be able to work through them though, so she wasn’t going to panic. Might as well just go with it and see where things went. If things went correctly then there shouldn’t be too many questions just directed at Warren to see what it was he knew about her compared to what she had told them.
He explained what had happened last time because he surprised them and she had to giggle slightly. ”Well, that was because you surprised them, as long as you aren’t surprising them it shouldn’t be an issue.” she said with a smile at him. Ildri could hear his mother inside, or well she assumed it was his mother, and it seemed like she was excited. Whether that was a good sign or not the phoenix wasn’t entirely sure. It should be a good sign right? At least it didn’t seem like the woman just didn’t want to meet her or something. They opened the door and she just stood there and smiled while they gave Warren a hug each. Then his mother hugged her after she was introduced. Then she was led into the house by his mother by the hand. Hopefully the woman didn’t mind the fact that she probably felt super warm. At least she could pass that off as just her powers over fire. No big deal there, and she already had that one covered and it was mostly true actually. It was always better to have some underlying truth so that it didn’t look like you were blatantly lying if you weren’t very good at it.
The woman’s question made her shrug slightly. ”What is it you want to know?” she asked back. She needed somewhere to start honestly so that she didn’t just start spewing information that wasn’t needed, or something that Warren wouldn’t remember later because they hadn’t gone over it and she just grabbed it from the top of her head. Besides, it was always good to have a place to start so that you didn’t get lost in the conversation. Information overload was a way you could go so that they couldn’t ask questions later, but she didn’t want to go with that. She wanted to only give what the woman wanted to know so that she could avoid too many large lies. After all, if they didn't all line up quite right then it would be easy to catch. She had her story, and she was just going to stick with basic information to keep it simple.

Warren couldn’t help but laugh when Ildri simply told him well don’t surprise them. He wished she could have known him before to tell him this. It would have been very beneficial when he had thought up the plan. At the time it seemed like the fun and goofy thing to do. Plus in movies when parents got surprised like that they usually loved it. Well that’s why they say moves aren’t like reality that’s for sure. As they walked in and got settled down in the living room Warren kicked up his feet. This was after all his home, he maybe was looking a bit too cozy but it was nice that he had finally relaxed a bit. Being all crazy and nervous took a lot out of a person and he wondered how some people did it. Sitting there he waited for his father to get back with some water. Warren should have gone to help his father but he retreated back to being a kid when he was here. Even though he wasn’t there child they most certainly treated him like there’s and spoiled him to some degree. Not to mention his girlfriend was currently on the front lines.
Warren gaze when from Ildri to his mother and back again. He was like a little kid curious to see what each party had to say and not wanting to miss any of it. His father strolled back in handing Warren a water bottle before sitting down with his coffee. He looked up and added in, “Oh looks like I’m not late for the interrogation.” He chuckled a bit to himself before sipping on his coffee some. Warren looked at his dad with a small smile; his dad really was trying to lighten the mood. Plus it wasn’t hard to read Warren and that he was scared to death. Okay maybe not to death but he was pretty shaken up, he’d never really brought girls home. And when he did well lets just say his mother was better at reading the younger women than he was. So maybe the fear came from he didn’t want her to find anything wrong with Ildri. It was a rational fear to have; she was perfect for him well from what he’s seen. They are perfectly not perfect and that’s what he likes about her. His mother seemed to be thinking and took a moment before she decided to talk once again. “Tell me about how you found New Academy and met my son.” She smiled at Ildri, and Warren knew she was trying to butter Ildri up by asking easy questions before getting down to harder ones.
Warren tried to go over her story once again in his head to make sure he remembered. Sometimes when he got nervous he would forget the easiest questions. Then again he knew the real story behind Ildri’s past so that made things a bit more complicated on his end. He had never lied to his parents before then again never had too. They knew what he was and could talk to them with ease about most things. Of course there were some subjects he wouldn’t talk about with his mother and that was Alfred. He was easy to keep a secret though he wasn’t his girlfriend that was for starters. Nor did he randomly show up with Warren to meet his parents. Not that this meeting was random it was well prepared for. As Warren sipped on his water he was getting twitchier by the second. He was sure all would be fine once conversation started. To her it seemed simple, don’t surprise someone and you won’t walk in on something you would rather not. Though, surprises did have their time and place, but trying to surprise your parents by coming home early when they are used to being able to do what they want when you aren’t there probably isn’t the best idea. It was the thought that counted at least? Anyway though, she should definitely concentrate on the questions she would have to be answering. Definitely would have to stick to the story they had too, and while she could probably just cover most of everything in a ramble, she’d rather at least have something to go on and thus threw herself into asking what to start with. She’d probably pay for that later, but for now she was perfectly fine with it. Warren’s father came back and stated that he wasn’t late for the interrogation and gave a bit of a smile at that. What was considered an interrogation now was usually much less serious than what she had seen in the far past. Some places still resorted to such things, but usually it wasn’t as bad anymore, and it was a lot fairer much of the time.
The question about how she found New Academy was a little more complicated than how she met Warren, and of course she had to think for a moment as if recalling a memory like anyone else would rather than someone to whom three years was much shorter than to most. ”I was travelling around Europe and heard rumors of a school for gifted students. I decided to do more research and decided to go as I’ve never really fit in anywhere, so why not try something new?” she said with a bit of an explanation and a shrug. ”A friend of his, who is bad at knocking burst into my dorm again only had him this time. They were looking for my roommate, and found me instead.” she said keeping it simple. She figured from that explanation that it was easy enough to assume that they started talking and then went from there. That was an easy enough jump wasn’t it? Unless she wanted far more details and while Ildri could provide them it would make it more difficult. The more you have to remember the more complicated it got, though for now she was actually telling the truth, so it should be fine for now.
She wondered what else the woman would ask her about, and how personal this would actually get. After all, it could even get into things that Warren didn’t even know yet. That could be interesting certainly because then his mother might wonder about what they had talked about rather than some certain details. Then again, sometimes certain things got a little overlooked, or were forgotten about unless they were specifically asked for. She wasn’t really nervous, and Warren at least seemed to have calmed down slightly. It was probably better if he didn’t look like he was nervous as all hell for no particular reason. Well, she did suppose a girlfriend being interrogated was a reason, but it wasn’t a reason to get horribly worked up unless you were expecting your parents to hate them. She was hoping that he wasn’t expecting that, but she couldn’t read minds and thus would have to ask him later. They may also have to go over everything she said later if he didn’t have it all quite straight. Seeing as he was convinced his mother would be assuring details with him later.

Warren smiled as Ildri began explaining where she came from it felt like he could finally breathe cause all of this would be over soon. Remembering the memory for himself a goofy grin appeared on his face. Alfred always had a way of barging in and not knocking. Although Warren was glad that he didn’t have a tendency for knocking or else he might not have ever met Ildri. Taking another sip of his water he grabbed a coaster from the table placing the bottle on it. His mother hated rings, but who didn’t they looked ugly just sitting there all ring like. It made you look like you didn’t care about your things. Of course unless it’s glass then you can just wipe it off but wood was another story. Looking back at his mother it seemed she was deciding things in her mind. She always played with her hair when she was thinking especially when she was in the lab. Her bright red hair that looked nothing like Warren’s twirled around her fingers. He couldn’t help but wonder what other people thought of him being so different looking from both his parents. But shook the thoughts away, at this point in time the majority of his mothers and fathers friends knew where Warren came from anyway.
“You traveled around Europe, well that exciting you will have to tell me stories about it.” Her voice lowering. “We can send the boys out for some pizza or something and you can tell me about you adventures.” Bringing her voice back up. “And you traveled with your parents I presume?”
Warren raised a brow when his mother voice disappeared from his earshot. What had she said; by the looks of Ildri’s face it wasn’t something bad. She wasn’t steaming from the ears yet that had to be some sort of good sign. He noticed his father’s eyes kept flicking to the TV, it was currently off but there must be some sort of sport on that he wanted to watch. Catching his father’s eyes they had a small conversation of ‘Oh Mom said no TV huh?’ his father answering with a nod. It was funny how different the two were, his father all about the sports and his mother hating every minute they were on. Yet they coincided perfectly he had never seen them fight well in front of him at least. They weren’t like that at all wanting warren to have the best childhood not growing up like some children they had seen with parents fighting all the time. He watching at his father quietly excused himself almost running off down the hall probably to his study to catch some of the game. He watched at his mother shook her head but smiled she knew. Well he was pretty sure everyone in the room knew except Ildri. Plus his father was never one to question other people’s motives; he was a scientist not a psychologist. His mother speaking up once again, “You’ll have to excuse my Husband, sports are calling and he just can’t stop himself.” A small chuckle rising from her throat not angry at all.
“So, I’m guessing you a mutant also then, what are you powers? Has Warren told you anything about his?” Her eyes flicked to Warren for a moment. He knew this was a trick questions going deeper than just if she knew about his powers, it was more do you know about where they came from? Warren had told Ildri she needed to keep it a secret from others but never to keep it a secret from his parents. He wasn’t sure how they would react if he told someone else about where he really came from. It would not only uncover a lot about himself but them as well. Biting his lips for a moment he grabbed the water again trying to meet Ildri’s eyes before she answered. But she didn’t seem to look over when he was looking at her not wanting to make anything obvious. He just hoped that she knew to keep everything hushed even from them. Oh what a web he was weaving for himself at the moment. Never did he think his mother would actually ask that. Warren just assumed his mother would think he wouldn’t tell another soul. Then again this was his girlfriend this was an arena all on it’s own. So he idly sat there wondering how this was going to turn out. His mother couldn’t know even if Ildri was lying right? So many fears popped up in to Warren’s mind. Never once had he thought about until now this was as much his burden as his parents. Ildri idly wondered how long this interrogation of sorts would last. Not that it really mattered, but the more questions that were asked the harder it might be to remember everything they went over because of just so much. That also meant there was a chance that his mother wouldn’t remember everything too, so that could help, but either way she was curious. Mostly she was curious about what sorts of questions she would get into. After all, it could get extremely personal eventually, but did she want to go into that yet? It was entirely possible she could end up going into things that Warren didn’t know about her yet if that was the case. There were a few things after all being that she had abridged her history rather than going into absolute detail. She didn’t really find that detail was needed all the time, and that it was easier to just shorten it to not overload someone with information. After all, with someone who’s history was as long as hers it would be easy to accidentally fry someone’s brain with detailed information. That wasn’t a major issue here though she was hoping. Eventually Warren would learn everything, but she’d make it happen over time so he may remember it better.
When his mother said she would have to tell her stories about her trips in Europe she realized she’d probably have to grab a few and maybe modernize them. ”I’ve lived in Europe all my life, so I don’t really consider them adventures most of the time. Just little trips, but no I didn’t travel with my parents.” she said simply with a shrug. Ildri didn’t eat, so pizza really had no actual appeal to her as a statement to send the boys for it while they talked. It also meant that she would have to be alone with his mother while she asked questions, and she may not be able to tell Warren about what they talked about if he was asked about it later. They would just have to get around that somehow she mused simply. It shouldn’t be too big of an issue and Warren could just pretend he had never asked about Europe. It didn’t seem like something he would be completely interested in anyway to be honest so it shouldn’t be hard to go with that. Then Warren’s father wandered out of the room and she heard his mother say that sports were on apparently. ”That’s fine, you can always fill him in later if he’s curious.” she said with a smile. If he wanted to watch sports then that was fine with her. It left her with one less person staring at her while she spoke.
Then the question about her powers was asked and she planned on playing dumb when answer the question about Warren’s. It wasn’t hard to remember that he had told her as a secret, and letting his parents that she knew probably wouldn’t go over well. Especially seeing as she had no intention of telling them about hers at the moment. They had a sort of trading of secrets between them, but no such thing would occur between her and his mother, so she’d just play the innocent girl who went to school with Warren and didn’t know his secret. ”I can create and control fire.” she said simply and pondered about demonstrating it, but she didn’t. If his mother wanted to see it she’d show her, but otherwise she would keep her fire to herself. ”He has…molecular hyperspeed I think he called it? I mean, he moves fast what else is there to know?” she said with a shrug and a smile. She certainly hoped that she was convincing, and that his mother would buy the small lie she was telling to get past certain things. Eventually Ildri would find out if she kept dating Warren more than likely that was a sort of natural process once people got to know one another, and she wondered if his parents were prepared for that. They had to expect it eventually right? Maybe they hadn’t though, maybe they thought he would keep it forever even after he got married or whatever. It was an interesting thought, and she might ask him about it after they left or something.
