why are they at the school: because of her ability.
ability: To speak characters/people/objects/etc into or out of books. A bit like the movie Inkheart. Except that there's no trading and she could also walk into and out of books as long as she has something to anchor her to the real world. Also some magical objects can turn alive in real world, but they need a good dose of somebody from their book world to energize it every so often or it stops working.

((very old one))
Tanika walked in calmly and took her seat beside an older Slytherin girl; she didn't look up to see if she knew her or not since she wasn't paying attention to anything at the moment except for a few of her exams. She was thinking fast and reviewing everything for each of her subjects, murmuring under her breath. She had her thoughts on Charms and Transfiguration, trying to remember each spell learnt though she did know some by heart and learnt them at a young age.
She looked over her notes as she pulled them out, and slowly memorize them. She tapped her fingers on the table, a habit she couldn't seem to get rid of. She liked to get rid of another 'things' too. She paused in her memorizing and looked at all the muggle-borns around the hall. She whispered, "Mudbloods," under her breath with a hiss of disgust and continued with her notes.
After a bit, she tucked her notes away and just sat there, pondering hard. She was still tapping her fingers on the table. She soon took her wand out and under the table go over the movements for each spell. She was going over the motions by memory and, after each one, she looked over her notebooks to see if she get it right before tucking them away, again. She swiftly placed her wand back to where she normally keep it and she sighed softly, while all the while, she went over each spell and wand movement in her mind as well as several other important subjects in her head.
