din era soliko.

nickname: Nope. Din is short enough!!
age: Nineteen Years Old.
grade: Sophomore.
important people: His mother is Reia Alison Perell, his father is Alan Marcus Soliko and he is an only child. He doesn't know of any extended family and has been mostly subject to his parents' friends instead.
member group: Sophomore.
why are they at the school: He recieved an acceptance given his gift. Its hardly something he can hide, given it is his preferred form of communication.
ability: Din has the ability to project what he sees and hears into another person's mind. He can also pick up on surface memories of others and replay them back for them as a form of communication. Din chooses to primarily communicate with images and sounds made by others, due to his own inability to talk. I guess the closest term for it is memory manipulation, even if it is primarily his own memories he is manipulating.

Din nodded shyly. He signed out, I am told I will fit in there. My mother doesn’t want me at a school where I will stand out too strongly. She isn’t pleased with my situation.
You’re situation?
Din considered how best to word it. Then he proceeded to sign, I was born without the ability to talk. It’s hard to explain. I can’t scream, I can’t shout and even laughing I am silent. But I can.. Din whistled once. It’s just the way it is. Before I learned sign language, I could communicate with images. This frightened both of my parents and caused a lot of problems for them.
You implied when we were communicating pre-interview that your parents are separated? Can you tell me more about that?
Din nodded and his hands were moving again as he explained. They never actually married. I was an accident. My mother has made that quite clear. Neither of them wanted a child and when I was born, it brought them closer together at first. But once it became apparent I’d be a difficult child to care for, both of them started fighting and they went their separate ways. I was passed back and forth after that. My dad made sure we were all taught sign language so I would stop putting pictures into their heads when I needed or wanted something. It makes them very uncomfortable... He shifted about a bit, knowing that part of his family dynamics was his fault and feeling guilty for it.
Explain the pictures for me please. I don’t understand what you are saying...
Din shook his head. I’ll show you. Din projected an image of a fridge. He showed the interviewer how he had opened it to retrieve a bottle of water. Once the image stopped he smiled innocently, I used to show them something similar when I wanted something. I just will them to see it I guess...
So, did that moment actually happen?
Din nodded vigorously. This Morning....
Can you show me another one?
Din considered for a moment before nodding. Then he pulled up several different memories in succession of various people speaking to him. They said “Din, Lets go out for Ice Cream. It’s been awful hot this summer...” It was a pretty weak example, but at least it displayed another use for his ability.
That was a bit Over-whelming. What did you just do?
It takes a while for people to get used to it. I just string together images I remember and put them in order so they say what I want to say. Generally it’s easier to just sign now. Though some words are easier to make people say instead.
So you’ve been creative in your use of this strange gift?
Din shrugged. I don’t know. I haven’t met anyone else who can do this and has used it differently.
Is there any other ways you’ve discovered to use it?
Din shook his head. Just still sights I’ve seen, memories I remember and words spoken by others. I can communicate with it much like you use your voice. The difference is more people understand how you communicate and are not as comfortable or adjusted to how I do.
And why is it you feel the school should accept you?
I was told this was a place for exceptional people. I was sent a letter about it. It’s not exactly a secret that I can make people see things. I mean, I was even interviewed a few times for the news paper when I was younger...That was before my parents started to hush it up.
So your parents don’t approve of this gift?
Not exactly. My mother doesn’t at least. She wants little to do with me anymore. My dad tries to understand, but I think it scares him a bit. It’s probably for the better that I get away from them. I make them uncomfortable. He proceeded to show an instance of his using his ability on his father. The man clammed up a bit before answering, shifting about as he answered. Doesn’t he look uncomfortable?
A little. And what are you here to study?
Criminal Justice and Psychology!! I am going to be a police officer!! Din couldn’t help the wide smile that spread across his face at the thought. I can’t imagine doing something that wouldn’t benefit others. I want to keep people safe.
A worthy goal. Well, welcome to New World Academy then...
Thank you!
