with all the words i say repeating over in my mind... DIN ERA SOLIKO ==================================== It was a Saturday afternoon of all times and Din was bored out of his head if he were to tell the truth. He had made several new friends over his time at New World, and people here were much more accepting of Din’s preferred mode of communication. He was more comfortable and more adjusted here than he had been at home, and not having to deal with his uncomfortably awkward parents was a blessing. Din still tried to ignore the way his parents acted around him, pretending it was normal, even when he knew it was him who made them uncomfortable to begin with.
The people here had shown him that it is certainly not just his parents but at the same time that people could act normally around him as well. It was a blessing and a curse. Din was sitting on a bench in the main hall today with a book. He had taken to reading, art and just about any other solo activity he knew of from when he was younger. Kids didn’t generally associate with Din long, so he had learned to handle himself and entertain himself. But today it was proving difficult.
Din was social by nature and he was struck with a huge desire to socialize. He just wanted someone he could speak to...figuratively of course. Din didn’t literally speak but he could communicate just the same. He often grew frustrated by his attempts when certain people had a hard time seeing or understanding what he was trying to say. He had learned patience over the years but even that grew thin at times. But Din needed social contact just as much as the next person and today he was a little lonely.
He glanced up and down, finding the hall empty. It was more crowded in the dorm areas but Din wanted a change of scenery, ruined by the cold rain pouring down outside. He had planted himself in the main hall instead as soon as he realized that the rain would be an issue. He sat staring out into the rain, the book hanging loose in his hands forgotten. Din hated mood weather. Weather reflecting your own mood could be such a royal pain and it just made Din’s mood even less lit. He scowled and turned his mind elsewhere, trying to focus on repeating over and over the lesson he had the previous day on standard human behaviours in comparison to psychotic human behaviours.

Small talk big thoughts
Gonna tell them all just what I want Leela had woken up around eleven. She was in her pj’s and wanted to go outside, bolting to her window she noticed that it was raining. Frowning she hated the fact she couldn’t go outside in the sun but it made for a good walk in the rain. Pulling on some shorts and a shirt she marched out of her dorm no sign of her roommate was present. As soon as she opened the door the dorms were buzzing with thoughts. All seemed bored and annoyed it was raining although some were studying. Laughing as she past each room and hearing the thoughts of different people amused her. Leela was in an awesome mood today she just couldn’t help it even though she loved the sun, rain was her favorite type of weather. As a girl she would pull her bathing suit on and she’d run around the back yard with her brother hollering and shouting till their mother coaxed them back inside.
Reaching the entrance hall she hadn’t seem anyone and opened the door. She let the little droplets hit her. She smiled and the rain hit her face, soaking her quickly. Her red hair matted to her shoulders she let herself stay out side for a while. Finally having enough she walked back inside. She was soaked and rang her clothes out before walking in. Her shirt was wet but she shook off a bit before walking in she didn’t want to be dripping wet walking in to the school. Opening the door she closed the door quietly behind her like she was going to get in trouble for going out in the rain. Turning around she noticed a boy, listening to his thoughts he was repeating regular human behaviors to psychotic ones. Saying hello he didn’t even look up, thoughts not even interrupted. Tilting her head wondering if he was just ignoring her or what was going on. So of course her being a social butterfly and not in a hurry to get back to her dorm she walked over. Leela had recognized him from around campus but had never spoken to the boy. Little to her knowledge he couldn’t even speak.
“Hello, working hard?”
She asked telepathically because even if he was ignoring her, how could he ignore voices in his head? Sitting down next to him but not to close she didn't want to get him wet, she glanced at the book in his hand. She figured he wouldn’t be freaked out since they were at a mutant school, and would answer her out loud. Or at least give her a weird look for interrupting him since it did seem like he was studying. Leela played with her wet hair a bit and pulled her wet clothes away from her skin. That was the only down side to going in the rain, once you were out of it and when your clothes started to dry they felt weird in the process. Then again she wasn't planning on talking to anyone after her excursion in the rain. It was a good change of plans instead of sitting in her dorm room and getting on the Internet.Word Count: 516 Tag:Din Soliko Outfit: Jean shorts, Teal shirt, Flip flops Notes:None Lyrics: Color on the walls (Dont Stop)- Foster The People

with all the words i say repeating over in my mind... DIN ERA SOLIKO ==================================== Din hadn’t even noticed the girl entering the hall, let alone her ringing her clothes out or even her voice as she had initially said hello. He was lost in thought and it wasn’t uncommon, though it wasn’t like Din could say hello vocally like most anyways. He was just getting around to the pathological lying part of the psychotic psyche when he heard...no...not heard...it was hard to explain. It was like he heard it but he didn’t need his ears to. Like that part of hearing had been skipped...but someone had said hello. Din jumped and if he had been able to make sound he would have yelped in surprise. His eyes wide he turned them on the girl, a hand instinctively rising to his chest where his heart was beating frantically.
His eyes followed her as she sat down, but naturally he didn’t say hello. He waved as his mind began going over how best to proceed. His thoughts shifted from using his own gift, to seeing if she knew sign language before it stopped back at the moment earlier where she had clearly bypassed regular talking. He tentatively considered what ways that could be done and the only logical reason he could come up with was she was speaking directly into his mind. Not sure if she would even answer.
Din focused on the thought “Hello. My name is Din” to see if she’d respond.
He really hoped she could as it would be the first time he met someone he could communicate with at ease, and without complications. Perhaps he was just hoping for something that wasn’t going to happen, but if it didn’t happen here at New World it wouldn’t ever happen.
Din was unusual in his thinking because of his gift. He often thought in images not just sounds. So as he had recalled the lectures he was thinking about the information and occasionally accompanying visuals would show up. Right now, his mind was clear of visuals for the moment, other than the general images he was currently seeing. He was looking right at the girl and had decided she was very visually appealing. He decided he also very much liked her eyes. Din decided to try a second bout of contact and tentatively reached out to her mind putting an image of the rain and one of his mother in the kitchen cooking soup and her saying “It’s still cold!”. Din meant it as a question, intending to ask if she was cold because of being in the rain, and more often than not, communicating this way was hardest when asking a question. He couldn’t convey the right tone, only the tone in which he remembered someone else saying the words. He projected pictures from memory, memories themselves but never words directly. It was like Din only had a mental voice in his head, and every other time he tried to speak words of his own to someone, mentally or verbally, it just wasn’t happening. One was just how he was born the other was his gift’s restrictions.

Small talk big thoughts
Gonna tell them all just what I want Watching this poor boys hand rest on his chest Leela figured she startled him a bit. In her mind this was the plan so that way he would talk to her, she hoped she didn’t startle him too much. But all was not lost when the boy waved at her, so she settled down next to him getting as comfortable as she could. Why couldn’t her powers be heat? She thought to herself as her clothes were doing their own weird thing. As she was fidgeting around she hadn’t heard his thoughts on how he should talk to her. She was focusing to hard on her own train of thought, but as the boy in front of her answered her back through the mind this did throw her for a curve ball.
Now it was Leela’s turn to be in a bit of shock, no one had ever kept the conversation going through their minds there. Well unless it was a friend and Leela gossiping in class or just not paying attention. She turned her body toward him her legs crossed on the bench. Putting her hands on her legs, Leela wasn’t sure what was going on but she very interested. The reasoning for her interest is because that’s how her brother and Leela used to communicate all the time, especially when they wanted there parents to be kept out of the loop. Or they went on strike because their mother was trying to make them eat vegetables. Not to mention she did love communicating with out talking, it made conversations much more secretive and fun.
“Hey Din, my name is Leela.” Flashing her smile after her thought.
Leela wanted to ask him so many more questions at once, but held herself back she didn’t want to scare him off. She tried to look at the situation like twenty questions and she had to wait her turn to ask the next. Feeling like she was going to skyrocket in the air. She took a deep breath in and held it for a moment before blowing it back out; calming herself down just a notch. When all of a sudden there was a picture in her mind of a women in the kitchen cooking soup saying it was still cold. Looking down at her clothes she was slightly chilled, but not as cold as she felt in winter with the snow and freezing weather. She wondered for a moment if he meant outside but she decided to with her first instinct. When the picture faded it was weird having someone else project something in to her head. Leela wondered if that how other people felt or if it was just because usually she was the one using her powers on others. She figured this was his ability, which kind of made her excited that he also had a mental ability.
“I’m not cold but chilly, can you do that again? Your ability is really amazing, I’ve never met anyone with your power before.”
Leela looked at Din, his eyes were brown like hers but a different shade. She then took a scope at his features. He was good looking there was no denying that. Then she glancing down at the book, not even thinking she picked up the boys wrist a bit and turned his hand so she could see the book title clearly. Leela didn’t even recognize it and set his hand back down where it was.Word Count: 577 Tag:Din Soliko Outfit: Jean shorts, Teal shirt, Flip flops Notes: None Lyrics: Color on the walls (Dont Stop)- Foster The People

with all the words i say repeating over in my mind... DIN ERA SOLIKO ==================================== Din had watched her cautiously for a reaction. If she had spoken in his head he wanted to know for sure if directing his thoughts had worked in response. He could send images and sounds he remembered but not thoughts. It seemed her power could pick up thoughts and give them. Din occasionally picked up on surface memories and visuals but that was about it. It was amazing how similar gifts could manifest in different ways.
He noticed right away that she had responded to his focused thought. She appeared surprised...but not uncomfortable, thankfully. Din was used to making people uncomfortable with his power. Before coming to New World he had been feared by many of his peers and he made the adults around him uncomfortable, even his own parents. His mother was scared and disgusted by what he could do and his father was just uncomfortable. Din didn’t get along great with his parents as a result and his parents had decided to have no more kids because of Din’s abnormality.
Din’s face lit up when she answered back and he had 100% confirmation. He couldn’t help the excitement that bubbled inside him. This was the first time anyone understood him without sign language, a pen and paper or him trying to explain something through complex projected images placed into their minds. She could not just understand him, but he could communicate with her similar to how people spoke to one another. He could use his own words through thought to speak to her. Din was awed, excited and at the same time he had no idea what to say exactly. He’d never had an opportunity like this before.
He bit his lip as he thought about it and then decided. He focused on the thought he wanted her to receive. Leela! I like your name and your gift!! He offered. He then without meaning to, brought up an image of a gift being opened in his own lap as if he were looking down at it. He was used to using images mentally, so just thinking in words wasn’t something his mind was completely capable of. Din often associate imagery with certain words and as such when he though the word the image would accompany it.
Din waited for an answer to his own visual question. And his smile only grew when she answered. He nodded his head and sent over a visual of a sun rise on the horizon with some buildings. It was a random selection from home. He then sent a visual of a clip from forrest gump playing on a television screen saying “life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get”. He intended the second to be an answer to her comment about his ability and never meeting anyone with one like his.
He focused on the thought I’ve never met anyone with yours and hoped she picked up on it. He was uncertain if she did. How could he know if she heard what he focused on or if she was even listening to hear it? He puzzled it over and realized that without an answer there was no way of knowing, just like people didn’t notice when he reached out to touch their mind and input a visual.
When she turned over the book, the title was “Grave Witch” and had the author’s name Kalayna Price across the top. It was a fantasy novel Din had picked up from the school library. He smiled and then sent a visual of the page he had just read, but only for a moment before remembering he could focus on a thought again.
It’s a good book! he focused, hoping she’d hear the thought. Din was finding himself hoping more and more that she was reading his mind. He wasn’t concerned she’d see anything in particular. He had nothing to hide really. He just wanted to have someone finally hear him, and not memories he had heard himself first.

Small talk big thoughts
Gonna tell them all just what I want Leela watched as Din’s face lit up with excitement when she answered him back. Although she didn’t quite understand why he was so excited. As she thought about why he was excited she figured that maybe people didn’t talk to him much. But couldn’t figure out why, little did she know if she would have just been listening to his thoughts she probably would have understood everything. But of course as life goes, easy things don’t come up so easily. So Leela was suspended in the limbo of being confused, not that it bothered her. She could always just ask, but right now it wasn’t the most important thing. Opening her mind back up she barely heard him. Looking at his face, he almost seemed to be concentrating on what he was going to say. She smiled and figured if she wasn’t listening when he made this face she should open her mind. Before she could think anything back a picture came in to her minds eye of a gift being opened.
“Thank you Din. My gift can be a pain though; sometimes people don’t like you reading in to there private thoughts. Or you can see things that, maybe you don’t want to.”
Wanting to see more of Din’s gift she waited patiently before a sunrise appeared in her head. She savored the picture before it disappeared, and now it was her turn for her face to light up with delight. Then she heard Forest Gump’s famous line, and she couldn’t help but laugh. She figured that this was meant for there abilities, cause it was very true. You never knew what you were going to get and no magical person could come tell you. Leela bounced a bit on the bench; she couldn’t help but feel excited. It was always interesting when she met someone else with a unique mind power. And that was once up to this point and it was a cousin, so technically it wasn’t someone new.
“Well I’ve never met anyone with yours, I guess that makes us even.”
She noticed his focused face again she couldn’t help but smile, she thought that it was cute. He didn’t have to concentrate at all but figured she wouldn’t tell him just yet. It was amusing to Leela but not only that; she didn’t want to embarrass him either. After she looked at the book she wondered if it was any good, not that she read too much but a good book could keep her in her dorm for days. Getting a visual image of a page it disappeared before she had a chance to really look at it. Din’s thoughts coming through instead saying how good the book is. Looking at the title one more time she might have to go check it out, just out of curiosity.
“So what are you doing down here by yourself? You seem very talkative for being alone, although I’m glad you were and I was able to talk with you. I find you very interesting Din.”
Smiling she played with her hair a bit, it was drying and she figured it was probably going to be a bit frizzy. Running her hands thru her hair trying to make the frizzy mess lay down. Somehow she just knew that it wasn’t going to agree with her, right when she needed it too. Sighing she let it go and took her rubber bands from her wrist and threw her hair up. If her hair was going to fight with her well, she was going to fight back.Word Count: 597 Tag:Din Soliko Outfit: Jean shorts, Teal shirt, Flip flops Notes:None Lyrics: Color on the walls (Dont Stop)- Foster The People

with all the words i say repeating over in my mind... DIN ERA SOLIKO ==================================== Din’s situation could be hard to explain. Not many people were born with the inability to talk. It was a rare thing that happened, though it wasn’t as uncommon for people to lose that ability through issues with their throat or vocal cords. But Din was born without vocal cords, a strange birth defect that had made it impossible for him to speak. Now try explaining that to someone without a notepad and using only images and broken words from memories. That’s a chore. Occasionally a person with knowledge of sign language came along, but they were too rare and Din very rarely explained his situation as a result.
Din didn’t catch on to her confusion as to why he was so delightfully excited. Din wasn’t sure what she could and couldn’t read either, so there was no reason for him to elaborate. He didn’t know what she got from his mind and what she didn’t. That in itself was starting to prove a tad frustrating to be completely honest. He also was completely unaware that he didn’t need to focus on a thought. That was also to do with a lack of knowledge of how her gift worked. Din had to focus to send images when he used his gift, but not everyone’s gifts were the same.
Din got a puzzled look when she mentioned that people don’t like their private thoughts being read. Din considered and found that he understood that. But he personally didn’t have anything he wanted to hide. He’d rather she could hear his thoughts so he could communicate with her than her staying out and him having to do what he does with everyone. It was like a dream having someone who understood him. He responded, once again focusing even though he didn’t need to. I don’t mind. I’ve nothing to hide. he offered, simplifying his reasoning.
Din was more than a little pleased to pick up on her delight as he sent her images. It was amazing to get that feeling instead of someone being startled, concerned about what he’d see or even afraid like his mother and father so often felt when Din did this. Not a lot of people could relax knowing Din was projecting an image into their mind. But Leela wasn’t just relaxed, she was enjoying it. Din was already starting to love the girl. He didn’t know her but he loved what she could do and how she wasn’t afraid of what he could do. It was an amazing change and Din couldn’t help but want to learn more about her as a result.
Din nodded his head in response this time, since a yes or no was an available response. He didn’t pick up that he didn’t need to concentrate given he was so adjusted to making contact, showing an image and retreating his mind back because of privacy. Hence he understood her explanation of people’s privacy being an issue. It also meant he missed things just as she was missing things he was thinking about.
Din’s smile grew huge when she referred to this as ‘talking’ and him as ‘talkative’. He couldn’t hide how pleased he was with her choice of words. No one referred to him as talkative. In fact, he had spent most of his life being called shy. Din wasn’t shy, he was far from. People automatically labelled him as shy because he didn’t speak and often kept to himself, a by-product of people fearing his power, not because he didn’t want to talk.
Din went over the section of his lesson he had been going over, playing it to her to try to explain he’d been studying when he remembered he could just think the words. He cut it off and focused unnecessarily, Studying. People don’t talk to me very much. He offered. He didn’t explain of course, finding no reason to.

Small talk big thoughts
Gonna tell them all just what I want Leela was curious about Din; he wasn’t like any one else that she had met before. He was so open that it was almost mind-boggling. Not to mention he had nothing to hide, he wasn’t scared of her poking around in his mind. It was so unusual for her, because people got pretty defensive if you just skipped in to their thoughts and listened. Leela figured she should tell Din he didn’t have to concentrate so hard. It was a bit mean to let him think he had to when he didn’t; it was just easier for her to read him.
Then again she could always try to form a bond between his brain and hers. She wasn’t sure how it worked but she had done it before with her brother. She reached in to her brother’s mind and it was like a switch. She could turn it on and off as she pleased. The bond was weird even if her mind was turned off to thoughts his always seemed to find there way through. She did this when he was having nightmares at his age of five. Kids at school had told him ghost stories. So from his room or anywhere in their house she could hear his thoughts and come rush to his side if he was to scared to move anywhere at night. They hadn’t tested how far she could actually here him, but at school it didn’t really matter and she would shut him out again.
She wondered if it would even work on Din, because he wasn’t related to her or if that had anything to do with it. To be honest she wasn’t completely one hundred percent sure how it even worked. Obviously she’d have to get permission but it intrigued her to try. Leela wasn’t sure what made her want to hear his thoughts all the time, she didn’t even know who he was. But there was something about him she couldn’t pin point. Maybe that’s why she wanted to be in his mind, just to figure him out. When Leela heard him say that he didn’t mind her reading his thoughts that he had nothing to hide her eyes lit up like stars.
“Din, this is going to be crazy but I can’t help it. I want to bond our brains together; ok wait that sounds creepy pretty much it’s a free pass in to your brain. I can hear you even if I tune the world out. And we can reverse it at any time more or less; the one time I tried it out I didn’t have a problem with it. Also if I’m reading your mind you don’t have to concentrate at all you can just be natural.”
Leela wasn’t sure why she would offer a stranger something like this. There was just something about him that was genuinely different in a good way. He intrigued her and by the way he was testing her powers and talking through thoughts she was excited to be around him. It was like they had a connection even though they had never met before this point in time. Leela’s intuition about someone was usually pretty good and she gave Din some extra points because he liked her power and pretty much gave her an all access pass to his mind. Any one who was that open to a mind reader, well she couldn’t help but favor them. Leela noticed Din’s smile grow as she referred to him as talkative. He did have a nice smile and couldn't help but smile a bit too.
Din then projected an image in to her head of what he was studying. She watched the lesson for a moment then it disappeared. She then picked up on his thoughts as he was saying people didn’t talk to him much. This stumped Leela, how could people not want to talk to Din. He seemed so kind and obviously he was an open book. She raised her brow and a puzzled look came over her face. She figured that there was some thoughts she had missed, and maybe he had all ready explained to her why no one talked to him. So she decided to ask to make sure she wasn’t missing the bigger picture.
“Why don’t people talk to you? You are obviously a very handsome guy and are a chatter box in a good way. Usually I’m very picky about who I open my mind too, but I can tell there is something different about you. Can’t anyone else see that? Then again I am I mind reader I can see peoples deep dark secrets.”
She said the last part half jokingly, but it was true she could see people’s skeletons they wanted to keep hidden. Word Count: 787 Tag:Din Soliko Outfit: Jean shorts, Teal shirt, Flip flops Notes:None Lyrics: Color on the walls (Dont Stop)- Foster The People

with all the words i say repeating over in my mind... DIN ERA SOLIKO ==================================== Din had spent his whole life keeping everything to himself. Most people lacked the patience to ‘listen’ or the motivation to learn how to communicate with him. And even then communication in all forms Din used had their limitations. It wasn’t like everyone knew sign language, and it wasn’t like everyone wanted to take the time to wait for a reply written on paper. Din communicated most clearly when texting, because there he wasn’t limited in the words he used and everyone could understand him. It had made him into quite the cell phone addict to be completely honest. But what was the point of texting someone if when in person they wouldn’t give you the chance to communicate? Now he had a chance to give everything and he was more than a little eager to have someone get more of him than he generally could give.
Din’s mind was certainly going over the possibilities his and Leela’s gifts offered. He hadn’t considered bonding themselves mentally. Of course he had assumed that anything along that line of thinking was too intrusive for two strangers. That wasn’t to say he was against it of course...He knew his capabilities but wasn’t completely sure what she was capable of or how it worked. Both of their abilities were different and likely functioned differently after all. Or at least that was the way Din worked it out.
Din watched as her eyes lit up when he expressed that he didn’t care if she read his mind. He couldn’t help his own smile and was feeling something almost akin to understanding. They had both clearly been suppressed in the use of their power. People with gifts were often misunderstood and the fear others had of what it meant when someone could poke into their mind made them uncomfortable. Din had learned long ago that hiding that fact was difficult and often detrimental. He didn’t broadcast that occasionally he picked up on surface memories but it happened sometimes. He didn’t hear their thoughts per say but could see memories or images they saw while he was tuned into their brain’s frequencies. For Leela he imagined the fear was even greater from people. They got uncomfortable when he projected in and picked up bare bones surface...but to be able to hear the thoughts at the existed, something she could clearly do...the discomfort from people must seem even more constricting.
Din listened to her proposed idea, turning it over and over in his mind analyzing it as she spoke. It didn’t sound creepy to him at all. What she was suggesting was basically an offer for someone who could permanently listen and he could permanently talk to. For someone like Din who often felt cut off and lonely, it wasn’t something he would ever turn down. He barely knew her, but one thing about mental communication was that it was hard to keep secrets. If she had motives that were darker he’d know from the tone of her thoughts or from images he picked up as he listened. He knew the intent was just as innocent and formed from excitement as his desire to accept it was.
The last little bit made his smile grow and he shrugged slightly in an ‘oh well’ gesture. But this time as he thought his response he didn’t focus on it, so much as just think it, keeping the concentrated expression off his face. Sure!! I’d like that!! You don’t mind my being somewhat in your mind though right? Cause that will happen...when I visualize and forward on my visuals to someone I often pick up their surface imagery. Not spoken thought but visual thought. It’ll go two ways. He explained. He was almost as excited by the fact that he could explain this as he was at the idea of what they were about to do. I am pretty sure we could both block each other off from one another with practice. I’ve had people in the past able to keep me from seeing flashes by concentrating on a particular image. He explained. That person was his father. Alan had learned early on how to keep his son from picking up what he shouldn’t. Din had eventually stopped sending mental communications to Alan. Then again, His father was afraid of what he could do. He accepted it, but was also uncomfortable and frightened by it.
Din’s face got a flush of colour when she said he was obviously a handsome guy. He tried to suppress the colour, knowing full well she’d be aware of the visual but also the mental shift he made toward suppressing the feeling of flattery and delight at having someone so beautiful refer to him as handsome. Knowing she caught that too caused him to turn more red and get an amused smile at the fact that it was forming into an endless cycle. He broke it off with his amusement and focused instead on the rest of what she had to say.
Din shrugged when she asked if anyone else could see that. And he sent a visual of someone gasping with a look of shock and added afterward the thought Oh No! Darkest secrets!!! Not those!! and then laughed. His laugh was the motion of laughter but with no sound as per usual. It often looked strange to people when they didn’t know the reasoning. Din then proceeded to finally answer her initial question.
I can’t talk. I was born without vocal cords. I can’t talk, scream, sing...none of it. So I use my gift, sign language, texting or a pad of paper and a pen to communicate usually... He explained. I can whistle though! he offered and then proved it by whistling a quick tune. He was used to people asking and generally he just made the motion to try to say he couldn’t. It was often easier to just let people steer clear of the topic; however Din was used to it coming up in initial conversation with someone new. He just wasn’t used to being able to explain himself so clearly and with no issues of how to communicate it and get the point across. Not only could he do that, he could even explain the details if he wanted to. It was a nice change.

Small talk big thoughts
Gonna tell them all just what I want Leela patiently waited outside Din’s mind while he looked like he was making a decision. She didn’t want to listen in if he was thinking about how awkward this gesture was. At the same time, she just wanted to know he didn’t think she was crazy. Pulling her knees up to her chin she wrapped her arms around her legs. His face seemed to show that he was deep in thought but it finally lightened and she opened her mind back up to him. Hearing nothing but silence she swore she could hear a tumbleweed bounce by in the wind. It was almost scary how quiet a mind could be, and then Din’s thoughts began to pop up. She began to smile as he agreed with her not thinking she was weird at all for offering. Well she didn’t know that he didn’t think she was weird for a fact, but Din agreed that it was ok to bond there minds so that told her something at least. Listening to Din explain that he would be in her mind also and that he can pick up on surface imagery.
Thinking this over that both Din and herself could see in to each other’s minds in different ways seemed fair. How hypocritical would Leela be if she said no cause he could pick up things from her mind if thats exactly what she was asking from Din. Just like Din, Leela didn’t have any crazy dark secrets she didn’t want any one to find out. She was just as open as Din but rarely people got to see that side of her. It’s not that she didn’t like sharing but when she got close to people a lot of them weren’t nice people she came to figure out. That was one thing that was easy for Leela to figure out, if some one was genuine or if they were just plain liars. Luckily for Leela Din was genuine, he didn’t have anything to hide and wasn’t afraid to have her poke around. Not that she would with out his permission or at least giving him a heads up first about what she was doing. Hearing him taking about blocking each other off from being able to freely roam seemed kind of limiting to her.
“I think it’s only fair if you get to peek in to my mind if I get to look in to yours. Plus that’s what makes this interesting how our powers will work together. If our minds are bonded our powers might actually be able to be shared with the other person. We have no idea what our powers can do, that’s the exciting part of all of this. Then again our powers might not do a darn thing and we will just be able to communicate all the time and you will get random images from my mind. You might even get sick of me and try and throw me out. So I’m thinking we don’t block each other out we just be completely honest about who we are.”
Leela smiled as she saw the flash of color run through his face after she called him handsome. Leela was still in tuned with his mind and listened as his mind was rattling things around his emotions were flying high. She also caught on to him saying she was beautiful now it was her turn to blush. Leela felt her cheeks growing red hot, she could only guess they were matching in color at this point. She then noticed him concentrating on what she was saying her color beginning to fade as well. Seeing a picture appear in her head of a person gasping and him saying no darkest secrets. It was surprising how many people had those secrets they didn’t want to let out of there minds. She watched as Din laughed but nothing came out, this confused her for a moment but Din began explaining that he couldn’t talk. She then heard him whistle a tune and this made her smile once again.
“Well I have good news for you, I can hear you just fine. And I’m sure I’ll be able to hear you talk, scream and sing if you desire. But if you sing it better be a catchy song, and if it gets stuck in my head your going to have to hear me sing the tune until it leaves my head. So ha Din the joke is on you. In all honestly though, just because you can’t talk shouldn’t mean people should distance themselves from you. It just means you’re unique and if people can’t handle that, they aren’t good enough for you.”
Realizing this after the fact that they aren’t good enough for you could be taken two ways. She thought about back tracking but decided not to, because even though they weren’t close friends yet. It was true if a girl or any one else couldn’t see what a keeper Din is right away they wouldn’t be good enough for him. It was strange how fast she had grown to all ready be protective. That’s just how Leela was though, she knew a bad seed from a good one and Din was most certainly a good seed. If people couldn’t tell he is perfect the way he is well it was there loss. Even though some times she could only imagine it felt like it was his loss. Things happened for a reason and maybe she was meant to have this meeting with him.
“So can you see any visual images in my head now? Or is it more like you have to look for them? I’m sort of interested in what you can pick up from me. And I can also scan through memories, although I haven’t really tried that one out too much. Just once on my brother to see if he had a girlfriend. He didn’t want me to know so I decided that I should find out on my own.”Word Count: 1005 Tag:Din Soliko Outfit: Jean shorts, Teal shirt, Flip flops Notes:None Lyrics: Color on the walls (Dont Stop)- Foster The People

with all the words i say repeating over in my mind... DIN ERA SOLIKO ==================================== Din was an open mind through and through. He wouldn’t hide anything, even his own judgements of people. Any question asked you could expect the answer to be honest. He was aware Leela had left him to his own thoughts this time, because he was still touching her mind with his own power. Din watched as she pulled her knees to her chin and wondered if it was concern, fear or anything of the sort that caused the reaction. She had asked a big question and waiting for answers to questions like this could be nerve wracking.
Din’s openness was the simple reason for his agreement. The bigger reason was obviously he often felt lonely. Loneliness happened and having someone there all the time sounded wonderful. Naturally few realized how open and accepting Din was. This was another thing kept from sight by his lack of vocal ability. People didn’t realize how much they relied on speaking. Din not being able to limited his expression and as such many assumed things about him without really know who he was. It was amazing to have someone who is able to see the entirety of it.
Din’s mention of the blocking was intended only to tell her that if he didn’t want her there he could do that. Though, it was clear to Din from the start he had no intention of doing so. It was possible, not necessary. If he knew she also found it restricting he would have agreed readily with her. What was the point in blending their minds to allow free access if the access wasn’t free? It seemed redundant. But Din’s intention was to let Leela know if she didn’t want him to see something, she could prevent him as well.
Din hadn’t considered that maybe their powers would be mutually useful to one another. How it would work was beyond him. He’d never met someone with a mental power like Leela’s or even like his. This was all very new to him and he was excited to see the results. I’d like that. It’s like getting to know a new part of yourself without realizing it was there... Din offered. So you don’t mind at all then? Cause everyone always minds. Din added, even though it was already apparent she had the same problem. Despite the other portion of the conversation, Din didn’t want Leela to shy away from him like almost everyone did. Especially because he was already getting used to finally being able to speak to someone...even if it was mentally.
Din looked down when he realized they were both blushing. He raised his eyes again when the color had started to feel like it was leaving his own face and found hers was doing the same. When did laughed he did manage to catch a trace of her confusion, but the timing was good, given she had asked the right question.
Din couldn’t help his growing smile when she expressed that she could hear him just fine and that she could hear him scream, sing and talk. He decided not to sing, because he wasn’t sure how he’d sound if he was mentally singing. It’d happen eventually. Well, same goes if you get a song stuck in my head. Songs very often associate with images for people. he explained.
Din listened as she explained that despite that he can’t talk they shouldn’t be distancing themselves. People fear what they don’t understand. Its why those of us who are gifted are feared. Its why people don’t talk with me generally. They don’t realize that there is more than one way to communicate. Some get frustrated with waiting for me to respond. It’s just the way it is. Din didn’t think they were not good enough for him. He just thought they were to be pitied. They couldn’t see past what was in front of them on a regular basis. A break in the norm scared them or upset them or they just couldn’t be bothered with it. That was sad and he wished that for their own sake they could see beyond that. They were good enough for him, they were just not good enough for themselves.
Din tried focusing in on Leela’s mind to pull visuals but was drawing nothing. He tried several times to skirt the top of her mind and pull what he could. I sometimes get things unintentionally. I am more likely to if I try. But I have to really focus to try. And even then, often I get nothing. I have a theory that some people think more in words than images and others more visually. I pick up more from some people than others. Din explained.
If you want to practice digging for memories you can practice on me. Maybe with enough practice you can do it very covertly? Did you brother know you were doing it? Din asked, interested in this as an idea. It’d be cool to be able to do that. Din almost wanted to start trying harder to pull surface imagery. After all, he’d never really tried that hard. People were afraid enough when he was projecting or skimming. He didn’t like making people uncomfortable.
Din considered for a moment how they were going to do this. Then he decided she would know best. So how do we do this exactly? I’ve never had enough access to another mind to try.

Small talk big thoughts
Gonna tell them all just what I want Leela stayed in his mind after he seemed to make up his mind. She smiled as he asked if she didn’t mind at all that they would be in each other’s minds. When he mentioned that everyone minds her thoughts began to turn. Leela began thinking of everyone that got mad cause she could here there most intimate or dangerous thoughts. But her mind stopped on one person in particular bringing up the memory of her best friend in junior high who kept a the secret she had kissed Leela’s crush at that time. Her eyes darting around as what he said rang in her mind. Not thinking that he could pick this up since from the day it happened the image of them burned in to her mind forever. Curling up more if that was even possible she relived the moments as if they were happening all over again. The hurt and betrayal, even though she didn’t have a crush on that boy any more it still hurt her on the inside. Shaking herself from the memory she looked at him her eyes less bright.
“Your preaching to the choir Din, no one wants me in their mind except you for some crazy reason.”
She joked at this because he was the first person who really wanted her to be there all the time. His mind was the most curious to her and she scanned over his mind. It was wonderful almost serene to her. She picked up on random images of sunsets and beautiful scenery as she scanned his memory a bit. Leela not wanting to be totally intrusive kept her distance for now even though she knew how he felt about her digging in. It was hard for her to wrap her mind around someone who was actually welcoming her with open arms. It was almost as if she felt at home snuggled in to his mind. It was a different feeling with Din but she couldn’t place her feelings if there were any. He was different in a good way; maybe it was because he needed her as much as she needed him. Din could actually understand what she was going through with people wanting them to just stay out of their minds. She noticed both of their colored cheeks were going away. She still couldn’t help but smile that they were all ready connected just by their abilities.
Smiling at him saying the same goes for her. She figured that was fair, she did like singing tunes in her head a lot so he better watch out. She couldn’t help but let her smile get wider as she thought about just this morning she had a brush in her hand and was belting out songs. He was going to be in for a great surprise sharing thoughts with her. But decided that he will find out in his own time that she was very in to music. She loved to dance, it made her feel free and wild and with the songs that accompanied well that was just an added bonus.
“Agreed and it’s the end of the world as we know it! How are they associated with images?”
But before she could back track on that she thought of herself and her brother doing karaoke to that song. She laughed as the memory popped up and saw her brother trying to be a bad ass while singing REM. She always wondered how you could be cool while singing that song. It was an awesome song but she still didn’t understand why he wanted to be super cool in everything he did. She supposed her own memory answered her own question. Leela began to beet bright red again not sure if he caught on the image of her brother and herself dancing around there living room. It wasn’t one of Leela’s best moments at dancing she was failing her arms around her body going to the rhythm of the song having a great time. Trying to push the memory back in to the black hole of her mind that it came out of. At this point she could only imagine how red her face was. Still unsure of if he caught on to it or not, but decided to move on to the next subject. It was deeper than what they were previously discussing, her face lightening once again as she concentrated on it.
“Well that’s not the way it should be. I mean it’s not like we asked to be able to look in to people minds. We don’t to go around just hanging out people secrets that we find.”
Leela could hear her mother say sometimes I think you are too strong headed for you own good. Letting a small smile grace her lips, her mother was right. She did let herself get riled up a bit too much for her own good, but that was just her personality. Feeling Din poking around she let herself relax; it was almost calming. She let her mind open to him although it seemed he found nothing. She almost seemed saddened by the fact he hadn’t.
“Oh, well I guess I’m more of a word type of girl then? You’d really let me practice on you? I wasn’t really expecting that at all. But it’s a good surprise I might just have to take you up on that offer. I don’t think so; he seemed a bit shocked when I found out. He was madder than anything that he couldn’t keep a secret from me. Well let’s see, I’ll have to search your brain a little bit but there should be something inside your mind I can feel. And BAM I’m in your brain for good, or until you want me to evacuate.”
She scooted closer to Din even though she didn’t have to closing her eyes. She concentrated on searching his mind. She felt her way through memories and old thoughts. Feeling where his power hid in his mind she wrapped there minds together almost securing the hold with a tights bond. Staying in this place for a second longer than she had to she reeled back in to her mind leaving a piece of her powers with Din and taking some of his with her. Well that’s how it felt anyway she was to sure either if this is how it worked. Opening her eyes back up she noticed she had leaned closer to him while her eyes were closed not even realizing it.Word Count: 1091 Tag:Din Soliko Outfit: Jean shorts, Teal shirt, Flip flops Notes: none Lyrics: Color on the walls (Dont Stop)- Foster The People

with all the words i say repeating over in my mind... DIN ERA SOLIKO ==================================== Din caught the surface memory of her friend kissing her crush. What he missed entirely was most of the context. That was the biggest issue with his ability. He may pick up the visual but the thoughts associated managed to stay away. He knew from the visuals that Leela was friends with the girl but he missed entirely the feelings and just how bad this was. He didn’t understand why this memory came to mind, so he said nothing, letting her keep some semblance of the privacy that came with such a memory. He did however note the change in her eyes which told him after the fact that it wasn’t a good memory.
Din shrugged and gave her a smile or amusement at her joke. Being someone who can read minds is part of it I think. I get something different, but despite that, I understand everyone else’s fear and it bothers me enough I don’t feel it myself. I have nothing to hide because I am always using my own memories to communicate. It leaves me with little to hide. So you being in my mind is no different than me trying to show you what’s there with my own power so I can communicate. He explained. I also feel you may appreciate some of the things I have to offer... that thought was almost an afterthought that was almost like he didn’t mean to say it.
Din’s mind had an overwhelming sense of calm because he was a relaxed and comfortable guy. His memories were loaded with outdoor scenery and time spent alone. So he made do with what he had. He remembered it fondly enough but also with a hint of loneliness . Sunsets, scenery, flowers, gardens, forests, creeks...they were normal visuals for Din. He also had plenty of evenings watching national geographic in his mind. He appreciated beautiful things, and who could blame him?
Din was finding already he felt more comfortable with Leela there than when she wasn’t. He was starting to pick up on her presence in his mind and gave a gentle prod with his own power, almost as if testing to see if it really was her or something entirely different. Naturally he was filled with curiosity and he wanted to know more and more about what Leela could do and he wanted to truly understand her. He couldn’t shake the feeling like something about this was the way it was meant to be.
Din’s couldn’t help his growing smile at the visual of her singing that morning. Din couldn’t sing in the mornings but he did think about songs, the words repeating over in his head. He sent her a visual of him dancing to his radio in the morning as he collected up binders and text books...the visual given in response to her own. When people do something and they hear music, it’s a natural association. The mind actually stores lyrics and music separate from everything else. A whole separate section of the brain tunes into music. So they are able to associate people, scenery, images, memories...anything to certain songs or musical sounds. I associate ACDC with my dad, more particularly Highway to Hell as it was his favourite. When I hear violin music I remember sitting and watching the sunset from the backyard of my house...and hearing Don’t Stop Believing reminds me of my high school grad. It just works that way. As he explained clips of visuals plopped in and out throughout his thoughts, a visual of his dead, the backyard and the sunset, the sound of the songs as well as the visuals. And even his high school grad made an appearance with Don’t Stop Believing playing after it as everyone mingled.
Din was laughing silently as he picked up on her and her brother dancing and singing karaoke. He wasn’t laughing at the memories, just with her about them. I wish I had a sibling to do that with...though, I can’t exactly Karaoke. Din offered, not sounding resentful, but that delighted that she had the experience and now he had seen that experience. That was one plus of his power that often got hidden beneath the surface. No one wanted him in their mind seeing their fondness memories. No reason to be embarrassed he offered, though Din did his fair share of unnecessary blushing.
Din nodded sadly in agreement, No we didn’t. But they don’t exactly have a way to combat it so they fear it. Naturally the human mind over embellishes everything. I’ve seen enough of it to know that. Din offered up, sounding almost disappointed with the human race.
Din shook his head. Forcing it won’t always work either. I am not particularly skilled at reading so much as showing.” He explained. It may not be that you are a word type. It may just be I am not well practiced so I am not seeing anything. He really didn’t want her to jump to a conclusion he hadn’t made yet. His mind was distracted by the large quantity of information flying through him about her and her power, as well as the prospect of linking minds...it wasn’t great for his focus that was for sure.
Okay...so let’s try it! Din said keeping his mind open and at the same time searching for the contact point so he’d know when it happened. It turns out he didn’t need to search. When he felt her power touch his it was like a shock. He hadn’t dug that deep into himself truth be told. Din was too busy shying away from what he could do most of his life to consider trying to use the full force of it. He quickly followed her mind there he immediately noticed a change, despite not having realized where his power was centered before. He could feel her presence in a way he couldn’t before. Like it was there to stay of course, but also like there was something left, despite her being elsewhere. She didn’t feel far and he could easily reach out to her mind. He discovered that he felt very at home there and that it felt like his own mind in ways, but also different. It was a strange and unique feeling but not one bit of it was uncomfortable.
Din hadn’t noticed his own eyes had closed and he had moved closer to her as well instinctively. When he opened his eyes he was startled at how close they had gotten and leaned back his entire face flushing with pink. That felt kind of good... he said, his mind saying to him that it felt better than good. It felt natural.

Small talk big thoughts
Gonna tell them all just what I want Leela shifted her gaze to Din’s eyes; he was trying to make her feel better. She wondered if he picked up on her slight change in mood. But didn’t want to ask and ruin his attempt to pick her emotions up. She listened as he explained he had nothing to hide, which baffled her every one had something to hide. But as he explained on, her thought was pushed away. He was right there was really nothing he could hide from her. Not just for the fact she could read his mind he has to be open to show her visuals. She supposed it was hard to hide when you had to put yourself on the line for someone to actually communicate with you. She picked up a smile as he also added in as almost an after thought she would appreciate things he had to offer. Leela had all ready appreciated how honest he was with her and the visual were an added bonus.
“I can see your point with that, I suppose it is hard to hide when you have to share yourself with every image. Like you said people do fear what they don’t understand. Even though you’re an open book not to hard to figure out. But then again for some people they are just a clueless mess. Din, I all ready appreciate the things you’ve shown me.”
She was trying to encourage him as he encouraged her. It was true that she was entertained and happy when he flashed images in her mind. It was like a world she had never explored before or was even able to. With his help, she could see the world in a new way through his eyes. It was hard to imagine a dull world; she all ready saw the world pretty colorful. But with Din’s help it was as if there were pieces she was missing in her masterpiece and he filled in the blanks. It was seeing everything more vibrant that it’s normal colors. Leela wanted to jump deep in to his mind and learn everything about this boy sitting next to her.
So reaching out her mind she started to feel around. Sensing different emotions as she roamed freely poking around. Feeling his powers swirling around hers trying to figure out if this was part of him or if it was her. Relaxing a bit she let her legs fall from her chest and placed them on the ground. Well her part of her foot was placed on the ground at least. She let her powers touch his as if letting him know it was her. Then wandering off in to different sections of his mind just exploring around as if this was something normal she did every day. If he felt her closely enough he could feel her powers buzzing around like a bee. Leela then saw him dancing to his radio this made her feel less embarrassed.
“I never actually really thought of that but now that I do it’s true. When I have a crush on someone every cute song makes me think of my crush. Or Hollywood Undead makes me think of my brother trying to be a hard-core gangster. And why do you think of your back yard when you hear violin music?”
This comment made her curious she could relate to associating her father also with classic rock and some modern stuff cause he wanted to be hip. When she listened to instrumental music it was to help her relax. It always seemed to calm down her mind even if it was the craziest piece that was being played. She saw Din laughing at her memory but it made her smile. She was happy it amused him, and he didn’t think she was completely crazy. That say wasn’t her best dance day but Eric her brother and her self knew how to have fun. Leela slightly frowned when Din shared he couldn’t karaoke this was not ok with her. Because if she could hear him and he could sing… well in his mind he most certainly could karaoke! Once again Leela’s hard headedness came shinning through like a bright star. She sat there for a moment gathering her thoughts but decided the best way was to just let her light show.
“Psh, you have something way better than a sibling. You got stuck with me my dear sir; you think I’m going to let you slide on that last comment? Because I’m pretty sure we can karaoke. Maybe not in the traditional sense then again we aren’t traditional people with our super mind powers either. Also another bonus we won’t fight like siblings do. Believe me it’s really not that fun especially when you’re in a battle with them.”
She couldn’t help but feel a little fire in her stomach as Din agreed with her. Listening to him he sounded a bit disappointed in humans, her hope was one day they’d all be able to live with out fear. But that was a distant dream and she knew it in her heart of hearts. Din explained to her that he didn’t have much practice with picking memories. She felt a bit better as he explained this, she didn’t want it to be her fault he couldn’t pick up on anything. Leela began to smile as he agreed for them to try it out. She felt his power almost piggy back to the point of origin where most his power lay dormant. When he receded back in to her own mind she still felt him even though she wasn’t even in his mind. She felt him reaching out to her mind with ease her powers coaxing his in to come and play. Leela opened her eyes a moment before Din’s and studied his face. He startled her when he moved back and she did as well.
“It is a different type of feeling, honestly I feel right at home in your mind. Just a good feeling? To me it feels amazing, my powers are thriving now that it has a mind to go and search. Its almost as if they can now spread there wings and go fly away.”Word Count: 1038 Tag:Din Soliko Outfit: Jean shorts, Teal shirt, Flip flops Notes: Not trying to make the posts long. Oh well. with all the words i say repeating over in my mind... DIN ERA SOLIKO ==================================== Din’s smile couldn’t grow any more than it had. He had met someone he could properly communicate with. Someone he could with just a thought tell his wildest ideas and thoughts. She was clearly open minded with a beautiful mind to explore. She was beautiful on the outside too. And best of all, he wouldn’t ever be lonely anymore. They could talk from anywhere. It was almost perfect. No, it wasn’t almost perfect. It was perfect!! And she appreciated what he could do instead of shying away from it. That was in itself big for Din because all those people he was adjusted to, they were afraid, or their minds panicked at the idea of him being able to pick up on their own memories and visual thoughts.
Thank you. I am so happy we ran into each other. He didn’t explain, assuming she could pick up his thoughts well enough without him needing to explain anything. She was giving him an opportunity he would only find once he was sure. It was also a little exciting to have access to another mind, another view and more thoughts. It was over all a situation where Din could find no negatives. They had the power to make each other into more than they were apart. It was almost intimidating but mostly, it was just exciting.
Din was doing his own poking and prodding a Leela’s mind. He was curious, and he wanted to explore. He didn’t know really where or how to start and decided trying to pull some surface memories was the easiest. He also tried a bit harder to pull up something that made her happy. He wasn’t sure what he was doing but was hoping the connection now made between them would help him figure it out.
Music is one of the things that the human brain has an amazing ability to comprehend. Even if you have a hard time remembering the small things, if you associate them to music, it becomes easier to remember. Din added with a smile as she began to realize what he was trying to explain. Din smiled when she mentioned the back yard violin music. My neighbor and former best friend used to play music all the time. She was young when she played violin and as we got older, she realized how strange I was. I guess it was a childish indifference before that transformed into awareness. She didn’t want to associate anymore. She realized others considered me strange and didn’t want to be considered strange herself….” he explained. He sounded mostly peaceful and pleased with the memories, but at the end he recalled mostly disappointment. Visuals as usual accompanied his thoughts, giving an image of the girl as she grew and also of her playing her violin in the yard next to his.
Din couldn’t help the delighted and amused expression taking over his face when she insisted having her was better than having a sibling. It was almost strange how they already felt like really close friends despite having just met. We can? He asked, confused as to what she was implying. You mean karaoke in my head? I am not so sure I would even sound good. I’ve never really tried! Din said, sounding more like he wanted to do it than as if he was protesting the idea.
One thing could be said. Even in personality they were fitted well. Din had too much harsh reality and a bit of a jadedness to him from having gotten to adjusted to shying away from his gift. Leela’s head strong and optimistic nature would do Din’s realism some good. He was already starting to feel like he could do things he had been told his whole life not to do or that he couldn’t do. But opening that channel of communication was a huge part of that transformation. Din had never had anyone who could hear him sing before. Let alone had he ever consciously tried beyond listening to music and reciting the lyrics to himself.
Din couldn’t keep his fondness for her out of his expression. He was never good at hiding anything and perhaps that was why he was so open to begin with. Din didn’t keep secrets. Not from his thoughts, to his memories, to his opinions or even his emotions. All of them were clear as day for anyone who paid close enough attention. He was already finding he adored Leela and admired her and he had only just met her.
