CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH AN ONION SLICE NOT TOO PARTICULAR, NOT TOO PRECISE
----------------------------------Alfred opted to remain silent on what might happen to a security breach. He wasn't too bothered about what might happen to him, even if it was discovered that there were two of him running around. Being a nation, he couldn't exactly be killed in the way that Tessa could. But Tessa? Who knew if they'd allow for enough time to explain what was going on?
Hopefully that wouldn't be a worry though. Hopefully they could get out of here before Alfred's past self showed up.
"My fault? You're the one with the time travel powers!"
Sure, he might have been teasing her, but that didn't mean that she had to travel back in time just to mess with him! Alfred sighed as Tessa pressed on about 'Sir Kirkland'. It wasn't so much that he didn't want to talk, it was that the subject matter itself was still a bit heavy. "Sir Kirkland, as that man back there called him, raised me. If you could call it that. He wasn't around for a lot of it, usually having to tend to other business. He had other kids to raise too. So I was pretty much left to my own devices. Then, as I started to grow older, he started to come around more. He started demanding that I pay him for a favor he did for me. I didn't think it was fair that he demanded payment without even getting my input first. I protested, and...well, he got stricter. Much stricter. He didn't want to accept that maybe I could take care of myself. So eventually, I broke free." He shrugged, trying to act as though bringing up all of these memories didn't bother him in the least. It showed in his eyes, though. "We're on better terms now, but there's still bitterness." Yet they'd been allies in several recent wars, so wasn't that saying something? Alfred let out a laugh as Tessa continued to speak. He held out his right hand with a smile. "Touch my hand." Again, it was spoken as a demand, not a request. Giving Tessa several seconds to react, the corners of Alfred's mouth slowly turned up into a smirk. "Does that feel like just land to you? That's Michigan, by the way." And now? He waited for the reaction. Oh, if only he had a camera with him...did he have his cell phone on him? Alfred started to pat at his jeans, very nearly forgetting the reason why he wanted the camera in the first place. [/blockquote][/blockquote] ---------------------------------- TEMPLATE CREDIT: eliza @ shadowplay SONG: Cheeseburger in Paradise by Jimmy Buffett WORD COUNT: 449 TAG: Tessa/Shannon NOTES: Obligatory history explained! XD This is concerning Alfred's ramble about Arthur/England.
Arthur raised him - Refers to the whole colony bit. 'Wasn't around for a lot of my childhood' - Even though colonial America was an English colony, the crown didn't really interfere with things too much, and kinda just...left the colonies to do what they wanted for the most part. 'Other kids to raise too' - There's a reason it was called the British EMPIRE. 'Starting demanding that I pay him for a favor he did for me' - French and Indian War. Great Britain was in a large amount of debt after this war (and the Seven Years War...which is the same war, only the European theater of it XD), and so the colonies were taxed. 'I didn't think it was fair that he demanded payment without even getting my input first.' - The tax thing...didn't go over well. XD And the without getting my input first bit is a nod to "no taxation without representation'. 'I protested' - ...do I really need to explain this one? XD 'He got stricter' - More British troops were present in the colonies than ever. Again, it didn't go over well. 'I broke free' - ...again, do I really need to explain it? =P
And there we have it. ---------------------------------- I'M JUST A CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE[/blockquote]

Hey, hey, you, you! I don't like your girlfriend,
No way, no way I think you need a new one, Hey, hey, you, you! I could be your girlfriend “Yeah, but I got so mad I didn’t really have any control! It’s like saying you used your super strength on something because you were mad but it’s your fault for having those powers. It’s no ones fault it just is and you know you would throw something or use your powers if someone got you angry.”
Tessa knew her reasoning had flaws but she was trying to pull some type of stop out of herself that would put Alfred in the fault. Alfred did have a point though, they were her powers and she needed to control them. Even if Alfred had been pushing her buttons it was still up to her to be responsible. Looking down at her feet she felt like she made a mistake. Luckily it was one Tessa could correct, so grabbing herself back up from the dumps she glanced around for a good place to go so they could travel back. But was interrupted by Alfred explaining who Kirkland was. He sounded like an evil stepfather, who wanted to make some money. But she bit her tongue because she didn’t even know Kirkland.
“So I’m guessing he was beyond furious when you broke free and wouldn’t pay him?”
She noticed Alfred was trying to play the role of the cool guy but was doing a terrible job at it. Alfred told her they were on better terms but the bitterness was still there. Tessa could only imagine what was going on between them and it must be awkward. Even if he really wasn’t there when Alfred was young, he was the father figure. Shuffling her feet she didn’t really know what to say. She could try and comfort Alfred but she doubted he wanted anything from her. That was all ready established as absurd between them. Then he said something that was weird, to touch his hand. But she did so uncertain of where he was going with this. She then thought maybe he wanted her to take him home right now. Holding his hand she tried to hold back a little smile but was failing miserably.
Upon hearing Alfred state that his hand was Michigan she let go. What type of game was he playing at? She wanted to say he was just joking with her but something in his face told her he wasn’t. Inching away from him she thought to herself was Alfred telling me he’s America.. a-a nation? Blinking she wasn’t sure what to do and that never happened. She felt as if she was frozen to the spot and couldn’t process a damn thing. Her smile now faded completely.

CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH AN ONION SLICE NOT TOO PARTICULAR, NOT TOO PRECISE
----------------------------------The points that Tessa made were valid, but that didn't mean that Alfred was going to admit that much, even just to himself. She'd already told him she brought him here to scare him! While he wasn't sure if 'scare' was the right word to describe what he was feeling right now, he was worried.
"Beyond furious? That's kind of an understatement. He refused to acknowledge it at first. We fought and fought, until he finally recognized me."
As happy as Alfred was with his accomplishments, it still felt bittersweet even to this day. For all of his faults, Arthur had raised him. He wouldn't be what he was today without Arthur. Yet, he wouldn't be what he was today without paving his own way either. It was all important in the scheme of things. Alfred looked up from his cell phone search when he felt his hand drop. Oh yeah, he was supposed to be checking out Tessa's reaction, wasn't he? His eyes darted back to her at once, grin increasing in size. Her reaction was pretty par for the course, if he had to be honest with himself. It was the reaction that most gave when he hit them with such (to them, at least) bizarre information. He probably could have gone about the big reveal in a better way, but dammit, it wasn't as fun that way! It did bother him when her smile completely faded. His own smirk faded at this as he shook his head. "Nope, no joke. That was Michigan. And try not to freak out too badly. I know it's a lot to swallow, but you don't want to draw attention to us, 'member?" It was, admittedly, a bit strange that Alfred of all people was telling someone not to draw attention to them. He wasn't known for being the type to blend into the woodwork at all. When the situation called for it, though? He could do a lot better at it than most thought. And getting Tessa out of here safely was a pretty big concern at this point in time. Hey, hey, you, you! I don't like your girlfriend,
No way, no way I think you need a new one, Hey, hey, you, you! I could be your girlfriend Everything was starting to come together the gears in her head were working over drive; if he was America then Kirkland was England? Tessa’s head was spinning with all these facts floating around in her head. Who else was a nation like this? That wasn’t important though at this time so she shoved the thought away. It now made since why Alfred would think them two being in a relationship would be absurd because it really was. If he was a nation and all ready lived about 200 years, he would out live her easily. She stood there for a minute mulling this all over, but how was this even possible? Then again she was a time traveling mutant that wasn’t even supposed to be possible. Tess felt better about the situation between her crush on Alfred at least it really wasn’t her it was him.
“I can’t believe that you are actually a nation. I mean you could be lying but some how your just way to serious about this to be lying. Who else knows about this?”
Tess watched as Alfred was searching for something in his pockets. She wondered what it was but didn’t really care at this point. Her face was slightly horrified and slightly curious about all of this. She could only imagine what joy Alfred was getting out of her confusion. At this point it didn’t matter she was let in on a huge secret. Not that Alfred really had a choice to keep it a secret from her any more. She wondered if Alfred had ever had a relationship with a human. Although that really wasn’t relevant at this point. She needed to get them back to there time also, this conversation would have to be stalled for a bit. Since Alfred didn’t really tell her what security would do to her if she was caught. Tessa assumed that it wasn’t going to be the prettiest thing.
“Ok I’ll calm down, lets just get out of here before someone does catch us. I don’t want to know what they will do to me if they figure out we aren’t supposed to be here.”Word Count: 360 Tag: Alfred/Mandee Notes: Lyrics: Avril Lavigne- Boyfriend

CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH AN ONION SLICE NOT TOO PARTICULAR, NOT TOO PRECISE
----------------------------------This was one of those rare moments where Alfred actually remained quiet. He was well aware that most humans needed time to absorb the information, and he was giving her the time that she needed. He leaned back against a wall, folding his arms across his chest as he eyed Tessa through the lenses of his spectacles. Finally, she offered her response to his big reveal.
"Not many. Our bosses do. All of our bosses through history. You'd know them as presidents, prime ministers, kings, queens, emperors...that sort of thing. A few people in our governments know. Hardly any civilians do. There's a couple of others at New World who've figured it out though."
He wasn't sure if the news that she had company would make her feel better or worse. "You can't go blabbing about this though. You will be killed." It wasn't spoken as a threat, rather as a casual statement. The intent was clear, though. Alfred wasn't smiling. He meant what he said. Not that he would necessarily do the killing, but the secret needed to be protected. The public couldn't find out. He didn't want anything like that to happen to her, but if Tessa overstepped her bounds...she needed to know what the consequences were. His gaze softened and the smile returned when Tessa noted her willingness to return to 2012. "You really don't. Trust me on that one." He looked toward Tessa again, taking her hand in his. He didn't even give a second thought as to what this might be construed as. He was just thinking about getting back, and he knew that they had to be touching in order to do this. Grasping her hand seemed like the best option. Hey, hey, you, you! I don't like your girlfriend,
No way, no way I think you need a new one, Hey, hey, you, you! I could be your girlfriend Taking on all the information he was giving her she nodded in acceptance. It was weird to even think Alfred had a boss being he was a nation. Should he be the boss of the president? It would only make sense since everyone in America was technically living on him. But then again what people didn’t understand they feared so he could be the boss only the people are keeping him down. He figured Alfred didn’t see it this way and honestly didn’t want to upset him about this or give him an idea that could go disastrously wrong. So keeping her mouth shut she pretended like nothing was going on in that brain of hers. Then Alfred surprised her with what sounded to be a threat but was spoken like just a regular statement. Not sure on whether to be insulted that he thought she’d tell or happy he cared enough to warn her.
“Who the hell would I tell about you? Not to mention if I did and the government didn’t come after me I’m sure I’d be stuck in some kind of loony bin for saying you’re a nation. Remember not all people are mutant and accepting as we are, for the most part.”
It was true she could see it now if she told someone Alfred was America. Even some mutants would probably think she was off her rocker and take her to go see a man or women in white. They would all tell her she would be having a good time here and the padded wall and restraints were for her safety. She wondered if she could just time travel out of something like that or if they have a special place for darker mutants so they couldn’t get out. It was a fair thought but Alfred answered her questions about how she didn’t want to find out. So with out further a do she held on to Alfred and began transporting them back.
It was almost smooth sailing until they ended up in a different place than intended. Looking around she tried again but only this time her power began glitching and making them bounce from place to place. At one flash in time she saw a dinosaur coming right for them ready to snack on them. When they finally landed she didn’t know if she took them to another dimension or if they were still somewhere in there own history. Glancing around it all seemed to be fine, they were obviously not in there time but it wasn’t like they were back in the distant past either.

CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH AN ONION SLICE NOT TOO PARTICULAR, NOT TOO PRECISE
----------------------------------For all that Alfred knew, being what he was, he didn't know why nations referred to their leaders as bosses. It was a custom that he'd known since he was a colony. When Arthur left across the ocean, he'd often say that he was going to see his boss. At a very young age, Alfred took this to mean a literal boss, but with time came to realize that 'boss' in their context translated to a political leader. In Arthur's case, at the time, that meant the king.
Eventually, when Alfred declared his independence, he took on the phrase as well upon his first meeting with (then) General Washington. As such, Alfred continued to refer to every president that he had as his boss. It was just the way things worked.
Alfred nodded in agreement. "Exactly. Still...you should keep your mouth shut. Even if it does just come off to most people that you're crazy, it's still too much of a risk. I think they'd still take you out."
He was fairly certain that he could trust her not to go blabbing. That eased his feelings of unease considerably. The blond nation felt the familiar sensation that they were about to travel through time again, and closed his eyes with an excited smile. Everything felt perfectly normal at first (well, as normal as traveling through time could feel...in other words, it felt as though it had the time before, which he assumed was normal). As they were starting to slow down, however, he noticed that the feelings became more jerky. It felt as though they were in a car that kept stopping and going in rush hour traffic. He opened his eyes when they finally stopped. "What the hell?" He looked around, running a hand through his hair. This place didn't look entirely familiar, but that didn't mean much. This could be some place that Tessa recognized. Eying the nearest street signs as well as store signs, he could tell that they were at the very least in an English speaking country. That was a plus. He turned back to Tessa, about to ask where they were, when Tessa spoke, and Alfred's mouth hung open slightly in his surprise. "Whaddaya mean? Where are we?" His eyes darted around to see if he could find any other hints to where they were. While he didn't see any other signs that hinted to where they were, he did see a girl, probably about fifteen or sixteen, approaching them. Her hair was wavy, and styled much like Tessa's, but the color was nearly identical to his. Her eyes were the same shade of blue as his, though lacked glasses. Alfred reached over and tapped on Tessa's shoulder at once. "You gotta see this..." All the while, he didn't understand why he was reacting the way that he was. It was just some girl, wasn't it? But for some bizarre reason he couldn't explain, he felt a connection to this girl. Hey, hey, you, you! I don't like your girlfriend,
No way, no way I think you need a new one, Hey, hey, you, you! I could be your girlfriend Tessa understood completely how important not saying a word was. She now had a big secret of the American government. And she was stupid nor did she want to test out how big and bad the American government could be. Not to mention if she did say anything Alfred could get in as just much trouble as her for saying anything. They wouldn’t go to the extent of killing him obviously they can’t, but they might lock him up somewhere. She doubted they wouldn’t be able to because of how strong he was then again they could have something built incase Alfred acted up. Shaking her head she jumped to the weirdest conclusions about things. She had a scientific mind and couldn’t help it, Tessa’s brain was trained to think of the unthinkable and work out the process in her head.
“I won’t tell anyone I promise.”
Those were the last words she spoke before ending up in some cracked dimension. Hearing Alfred as what the hell? He obviously thought something fishy was going on. When in all reality Tessa wasn’t sure what was going on at all. Inspecting herself or at least trying she didn’t see her self hurt of anything. This had never happened before her powers never stopped working full power unless she wanted them too. And that was never because she always knew where she was going in the time line. Glancing around at the street signs also she identified this place was an English speaking country and they probably aren’t far from there’s. In time travel time, it’s not like she made a great voyage all the way across the world.
“I don’t know where or how my powers freaked out. It almost felt like something was pulling us here. Well maybe not pulling, I’m just honestly not sure what happened. My powers have never done this before. I also don’t know the question either we could be anywhere. But it seems more likely we are somewhere in America or Canada.”
Nodding her head as if to reassure herself on what she was saying. Then going back to look at all the buildings and people. Not many people were walking around which is strange for a sidewalk, but they might be in a not too populated area. It was all so confusing, but trying to keep her head from exploding she tries to think of explanations. There was nothing she did back in England that was unusual she concentrated like normal. Alfred wasn’t even a different variable because they arrived safely when they got there. Then again it might have just been a fluke nothing neither of them could predict just something that happens.
Biting her lip she kept looking around as she supposed Alfred was doing the same the opposite way. Turning around immediately and alarmed when he stated she had to see something she did. Tessa’s mouth almost dropping as she sees this beautiful girl walking toward them. Trying to make anything come out of her mouth she couldn’t. But what puzzled Tessa was why the girl looked so similar to herself but had small features of Alfred thrown in also. Thinking to herself that this couldn’t be the future could it? Then again interacting with this child could really hurt the time line. She wondered if they were even in the right one.
“Why does that girl look just like us Alfred? And she is headed our way what do we do?
But Tessa was stopped from saying anything else as she sees this mysterious girl come running up to them.
“Mom!”
The girls runs up to Tessa and gives her a hug. At this point not even noticing Alfred.
“Your ageless cream is really doing you good, it looks like its taking years off.”
The girls smile drops a little as she see’s Alfred. He looks the same as every picture in the house.
“Why are you here?”
She snaps not even really noticing her mom is a bit younger than what she is right now. But her full attention was focused on Alfred.Word Count: 661 Tag: Alfred/Mandee Notes: Weee! Lyrics: Avril Lavigne- Boyfriend

CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH AN ONION SLICE NOT TOO PARTICULAR, NOT TOO PRECISE
----------------------------------Even being almost positive that Tessa wasn't going to blab wasn't enough. He wanted to know for certain. Alfred barely had enough time to smile when Tessa assured him that she wouldn't tell before it happened.
Alfred still didn't know where they'd ended up. He hadn't even considered that they might have landed themselves in some alternate timeline. He did note that this didn't feel like one of his cities or towns, though, leading him to believe that they'd most likely found themselves in Canada. Canada, or England, or Australia...there were an awful lot of English speaking countries! He was about to straight up go and ask someone (why just stand around when they could have their question answered in two seconds?) when he'd spotted her.
It was a rare occasion where Alfred was struck speechless, but this was one of those occasions. As the girl approached closer, he realized just how much this girl looked like a blend between himself and Tessa. The hair color and eyes were his. The hair style was hers. The lips were hers, the nose was his...it went onward. And it made Alfred feel uneasy. He shoved his hands into his pockets to hide the fact that he was fidgeting slightly.
"Who..."
He started to greet the girl, his 'play it cool' facade shattered into a million pieces when a look of pure shock came across his face. The girl addressed Tessa as mom. Mom? Mom?Well, that settled it. They were in the future. He couldn't help but grin. No wonder she looked so much like Tessa. Tessa was her mother. In his excitement at finding this out, Alfred very nearly forgot that Tessa wasn't the only one who's characteristics were portrayed in this teenage girl. When her matching blue eyes turned to him, he felt a chill go through his spine. Those eyes...it was like looking into a mirror. With his reflection glaring back at him. That only served to bring back another shudder. He did not like to be reminded of that! "That's what we're trying to figure out. Who are you?" It was another request voiced more like a demand. It wasn't as stern as he hoped it would be, though. Instead, the curiosity was evident in his voice, and his eyes were searching. Hey, hey, you, you! I don't like your girlfriend,
No way, no way I think you need a new one, Hey, hey, you, you! I could be your girlfriend Tessa wondered what Alfred was going to say but he was cut off by the girl saying mom. Looking around to see if she was talking to someone else behind her. But when she got hugged the deal was sealed she was this girls mom. Noticing that the strange girl was almost as tall as Tessa, she looked in to her blue eyes then to Alfred’s. They were almost the same oceanic blue that you could get lost in. Tessa touched the girl’s hair next and it was golden blonde locks, but the texture of her own hair. Wrapping her arms around the girl she felt the emotional bond of a mother to a child. It was weird and her eyes were wide as if she wasn’t too sure how all of this was happening. Tessa held her daughter close for a moment before realizing what if this was the future. It had to be the future where else would they be in time? She then let go and backed a couple steps away. Hearing her daughters compliment on her ageless cream she almost corrected her but bit her tongue instead.
Tessa noticed the anger that shot across the girls face when she looked at Alfred. It puzzled her why the girl would be angry with Alfred. How did she even know him to make her angry? But looking over the girls features again she noticed that the golden locks looked very similar to Alfred’s and the eyes looked similar but it wasn’t until Tessa realized this girl wasn’t just her daughter, but Alfreds too? The light bulb in her mind went off and it all was clear. Before she just assumed that the eyes looked the same but figured it was someone else. Her head felt a bit dizzy with this information and she looked around for a place to sit down. Only she was frozen in place by fear. Turning her head to look at Alfred she wasn’t sure if he had figured it out yet. Hearing the next words only confirmed what Tessa had been thinking.
“You don’t even recognize your own daughter? It figures since you only come back for certain holidays. My name is Marilyn Eleanor O’Conner-Jones. I thought you’d at least remember my name Alfred.”
She paused and looked at Tessa before adding in “Dad.”Word Count: 391 Tag: Alfred/Mandee Notes: Haha yay! Shit is about to get real, real quick. =D Lyrics: Avril Lavigne- Boyfriend

CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH AN ONION SLICE NOT TOO PARTICULAR, NOT TOO PRECISE
----------------------------------Alfred stared at the girl. Something wasn't right about this.
His breath caught in his throat when she referred to herself as his daughter. "N-No. That's not possible."
Alfred blurted out before he could stop himself. It wasn't possible! Nations couldn't have children! ...or could they? So far as Alfred could tell, the issue had never been addressed before. It was pretty much an accepted fact that nations couldn't have children with other nations. There would be far too many complications arising with that. Random islands popping up everywhere. A small smile came across Alfred's face at the thought. That would be hilarious! It wasn't the way things worked, though. Try as he might, he couldn't recall any such rule between a human and a nation. No one ever mentioned a human and a nation having a child, but it also wasn't explicitly mentioned that it wasn't possible, or that it hadn't happened. And if what this girl was saying was true, it had happened. Here, in the future. Alfred's eyes widened even further, if that was possible. "Are you human?" He asked before he could stop himself. He didn't know what all this girl knew, but he was going to find out. He had to find out. Everything this girl knew, everything this girl was, he had to know. He found himself studying her closely. This girl was his daughter. His daughter! Hey, hey, you, you! I don't like your girlfriend,
No way, no way I think you need a new one, Hey, hey, you, you! I could be your girlfriend Tessa looked at Alfred wanting to hit him over the head. Right now he was doing more damage then good and by the look on this girls face al her anger had dropped off of it replaced by a mixture of sadness and confusion. Tessa scooted closer to the girl placing a hand on her shoulder. She wasn’t quite sure what to do but her body seemed to know the right steps to take. Tessa also couldn’t help her face from glaring at Alfred. She honestly had no idea where this hostility was coming from but assumed it was a mother bear type of reaction. Tessa wanted to hush Alfred before tearing all these girls dreams down in ruins.
“What do you mean it’s not possible? I’m right here aren’t I?”
Tessa shifted nervously as this conversation was unfolding. She could help but grin at Marilyn; Tessa obviously had done a good job of raising the girl because even though she clearly looked hurt she was firing back as soon as she processed what he was saying. Glancing between the two she figured she was put in this position a lot. The girl didn’t miss a beat and she didn’t seem bothered that Tessa was lost for words. Maybe this was something the girl had been saving for a while but finally had the chance to say something because Tessa well her mother was letting her.
“Of course I’m not human I’m a mutant I can slow down time, stop time and reverse time. I just don’t age like a normal human. You would know that if you were around more. Uncle Matthew tries to cover for you saying you have important business trips to America but what’s more important than me?”
Tessa then couldn’t help but snap a bit. “He’s doing the best he can Marilyn you don’t understand and that’s why you are lashing out.” She covered her mouth once she had said it not sure if she was just picking up on what she would actually say. Furrowing her eyebrows she wasn’t even sure if she should utter another word. It was weird for Tessa to be picking up on things like this it had never happened before. But she figured since they were in the future she would be picking up on how her personality was now. Her eyes darted to Alfred almost asking him what the hell was going on but knew he wouldn’t have any idea either.
“Mom you always say that, but what does it mean?”
Tessa looked down at her daughter and wasn’t sure what she meant by that. She just sort of blurted it out but there was no explanation for it. Well there was but not one she was willing to share with her.Word Count: 464 Tag: Alfred/Mandee Notes: Mommy instincts are kicking in! Lyrics: Avril Lavigne- Boyfriend

CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH AN ONION SLICE NOT TOO PARTICULAR, NOT TOO PRECISE
----------------------------------Alfred knew full well that he could have reacted better. That didn't change the words that slid out of his mouth, or the fact that this was a huge shock to him. First off, he didn't even think anything would become of he and Tessa, given that she wanted a relationship and Alfred couldn't give her that, on account of what he was. Second off? He certainly didn't think that any of his many flings with humans would result in something like this!
"I guess you are."
He continued to eye her, but less like a father would look at his daughter and more like she was an enigma. Yet there was something there. A pull toward her, an attraction, a strong urge to protect her. He found himself wanting to reach out and touch her, but before he could, she snapped back at him and he recoiled a bit in surprise. He was even more surprised when Tessa snapped back at Marilyn. One minute Tessa was telling him off, the next she was standing up for him. He couldn't help but grin a little in amusement at that. Marilyn's words did hit home, though. This might be the future, but Marilyn was clearly owed an explanation. Keeping up with security was important, yes. If this were simply a girl off the street, he'd keep silent. But if this was his daughter (and instinct told him it was), she was old enough to know, and she deserved to know. "Marilyn," He stated, the name feeling strange in his mouth. "There is a reason you don't age normally. I'm sure you've seen through pictures of me that I don't exactly age in the most normal way either." The corners of his mouth turned up into the slightest grin at this, hoping she'd react positively to the bit of humor he'd injected. Really, though, if she'd seen pictures, she had to understand where it was coming from. "You know me as Alfred F. Jones, but that's only my human name." He paused a bit, for dramatic effect. And maybe to give it time to settle in. Mostly for dramatic effect, though. This was Alfred. "My real name is the United States of America." As if the pause for dramatic effect was needed after THAT revelation. Hey, hey, you, you! I don't like your girlfriend,
No way, no way I think you need a new one, Hey, hey, you, you! I could be your girlfriend Tessa stared at the two feeling slightly out of the conversation. Then again this wasn’t one she could out right explain either. She figured she’d have enough time telling her about it in the future. Glancing at he daughter every now and then as Alfred explained there was no out right facial expression. She wondered where she got this from or if it was from years of not knowing so she didn’t have feelings about it. Listening to Alfred make his big reveal her eyes almost burned through Marilyn waiting for her to say something. Just like Tessa she figured she daughters mind was working extra hard to try and put this all in a reasonable perspective but there was none. Dropping her hand from Marilyn’s shoulder she didn’t want to get the first attack if she started to freak out.
“Your- your America?”
Tessa watched as the girl looked down at her hands. Everything seemed to be sliding in to place for the girl why she was so different, besides her mutant powers. Wanting to ask if she was ok, she once again bit her tongue the young women seemed very capable of talking. Tessa’s eyes flashed to Alfred for a moment trying to figure out how he was feeling also. For a second she wished she had mind reading powers this all would be so much easier. Tessa noticed Marilyn’s fist clench and release. She figured all of this at once was a little much; she probably had wanted to know for a long time. Tessa then realized Marilyn’s anger might be aimed toward her for not telling her for so long. But she was sure her future self had a good explanation like not wanting to put such a huge burden on such a young girl.
“Why was I never told before? You always said you were going off on trips.”
Tessa’s eyes locked with the girl but the question seemed more directed at Alfred then herself. Tessa wondered if she put that black mark on Alfred. Leaving it up to him to decide when his daughter was ready. She shook her head as to why she’d want to play the good guy and make Alfred pretty much look like an asshole in the eyes of his daughter. She couldn’t rationalize it out at all, unless Tessa had been hurt by Alfred not being around much either, this was a semi reasonable explanation.Word Count: 397 Tag: Alfred/Mandee Notes: Oh dang! CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH AN ONION SLICE NOT TOO PARTICULAR, NOT TOO PRECISE
----------------------------------Alfred watched Marilyn's reaction as closely as Tessa. It was hard to know how she'd react to Alfred's revelation. Even though he'd told every boss he ever had who and what he was, that was different. He was used to the many and varied reactions that they displayed. He knew it would be different with Marilyn, if he was indeed her father.
"I am."
Came Alfred's response. He felt stiff and unsure. It was shock, but shock was to be expected. What would come after the initial shock? She took the revelation of what Alfred was surprisingly well. But then, this was his daughter. Maybe she'd sensed something all along. Alfred had no way of knowing, and found it immensely frustrating. Here was Marilyn, mentioning things that hadn't even come to be. How was he supposed to respond to those questions? Still, it wasn't too hard to figure it out. "It's sensitive information. I...it's not something you'd normally tell a kid." The words came to Alfred, and he made no effort to stop them from tumbling from his mouth. He didn't want to come out and use the phrase that she wasn't old enough, because he knew full well the sorts of feelings that phrase could generate. Hadn't Arthur used that phrase on him repeatedly before Alfred decided he had enough? "You're not a kid anymore, though, and you deserve to know." That, Alfred reassured himself, was the difference between himself and Arthur. In fact, a pang went through Alfred as he looked at Marilyn. For a moment, he saw himself standing before Arthur, asking a similar question. Why weren't you there? He was determined not to make the same mistakes as England, and yet, in this time period, he apparently already had. This didn't sit well with him. At the very least, he could tell her the information that she needed to know. They could decide what they were going to do from there. "Maybe we could, uh, go grab a bite to eat while we discuss things?" Alfred stated with his usual grin. It was characteristic of Alfred to try to break up a tense atmosphere in any way he possibly could, and this was no different. They all needed to relax a little, and what better way than to grab a bite to eat? Everyone enjoyed food!
